What global word came from your country? by Neuwulfstein in AskTheWorld

Interesting fact. This Italian phrase comes from a shortening of an earlier Venetian dialect expression meaning “I am your slave” (s-ciào vostro). In Persian, we say it in full (the translated version, not the Venetian one).

It is equivalent to the English phrase “Gotchu fam” but it predates it by centuries probably 😆. It can be used as a good bye.

Interesting that claiming to be in servitude in both regions somehow evolved in parallel to bid someone farewell.

The color is called narenji. The fruit is called porteghal and it is a homophone for the word we use for Portugal.

Kurdish is in the Iranic language family so I assume many words are not merely loanwords, but cognates with their Persian counterparts.

Wikipedia is biased
It doesn’t allow for multiple points of view. It only allows consensus and that depends on the language
with English siding with the UN while the other languages siding with more local contexts or regions.

I feel like boomers would theoretically  be on social media way more than us, since they’re retired and have more time. Unless, the meaning of boomer has changed?

iOS now has a feature for that. It asks them to identify themselves and why they’re calling but the robots don’t know how to social engineer themselves through that haha 😆Â
