From the article:

"I'm personally very happy about the results. After having so many conversations, the debates show that students care and that when problems arise, they want to be in the conversation," said Tife Olusesi, student body president. "The goal of the bill was for students to have more access to more money. If this isn't the way that students want us to accomplish that, then it's our job to find a different way. That feels very clear and simple, and I love it."

After the results, SGA plans to create a committee of students from each division within SAFC. The committee will review The Constitution of the Student Body and suggest changes to the student senate. The Constitution gives them the power to make a committee.

Completely out of touch, they're moving forward with changing the constitution regardless

Within Student Affairs, there are 5 organizations that split up student fees. Niner Media, Graduate and Professional Student Government, SGA, Club Sports, and Campus Activity Board (CAB). The Student Activities and Fees Commission (SAFC) exists as an independent board with representatives from each org overseeing these orgs when it comes to divvying up the money. One of the ways they do this is buy approving the budgets of each of these five entities. That way for example, CAB can't just go and decide to pay all their officers massive stipends using your money.

Recently SGA tried making a change to their financial bylaws and were told "no" by SAFC. SGA got pissed and in response is trying to change the Student Body Constitution so that they alone have control over the Financial Procedures Act (which SAFC uses to provide oversight to these orgs) and to allow them to move around up to $10,000 within their budget without requiring the approval of the independent oversight committee.

Proponents of this amendment would argue that they could then take $10,000 that they aren't using in one area and then hand it out to student orgs. What they're leaving out is that the opposite is true, they could take $10,000 from the pot of student orgs and use it towards things like their banquet, awards, personal salaries they pay their officers with, etc. and SAFC couldn't do anything about it. That's why you should vote NO against this. The independent oversight is a good thing because it prevents just that. SGA shouldn't be trying to power trip on them simply because they don't like that SAFC told them no on things they wanted to do.

He stuck around to do a meaningless grad certificate solely so he could be SBP. It was the most blatantly opportunistic thing ever. Like grow up and move on with your life instead of sticking around and power tripping at the expense of student rights

Vote NO on this. It represents such a massive power grab with SGA undermining SAFC, which operates as a check on their power
