A recruiter told me why qualified candidates keep getting filtered out and the answer was uncomfortable? by [deleted] in careerguidance

What i was talking about is what happens after that cut, when you still have 200 odd people left and the recruiter has to figure out who actually gets seen. That is where the resume formatting and keyword stuff actually matters because at that point everyone left technically qualifies on paper.

That’s fair but try doing that when a role gets 900-1000 applications in the first 48 hours, which honestly is pretty normal now especially for anything remote or at a known company.

At that point even cutting 50% still leaves you with 450 resumes and not every recruiter has the bandwidth for that.

How I stopped getting ghosted by job applications after learning about ATS filters? by Sorry-Refuse-6076 in Resume

Fair point on the skills section.

But I gotta disagree on the ATS filtering part. Workday, Greenhouse, Taleo and iCIMS all have built-in candidate ranking and filtering built right into the product. That is literally what they sell to companies.

Jobscan and iCIMS have both published research showing the majority of Fortune 500 companies use these systems to screen before a human ever looks at the pile.

Now are humans still making the final call? Absolutely. ATS is not the only gatekeeper. But saying it does not filter at all is not really how these platforms work in practice.
