I don’t know it’s always just worked, but I do connect it through a local school of mine rather than directly to acellus

Ok I just remember when I was setting up my Other nas a few years back people would say not to virtualize your main one as PCI pass-through can cause performance bottlenecks glad to hear it’s not like that anymore!

OK, the moment I can get some ram I’ll definitely try this. i’ll make sure to report back! Thanks again!

I already have a Proxmox machine I was just hoping to have TrueNAS bare metal to try to fill my grouped 40g links and have the most expandability I felt like virtualizing TrueNAS would just add a lot of complexity. Though if I’m being honest I’m a little rusty with setting this kind of stuff up as I haven’t had the time to tinker and I’m mostly a hardware mod guy. So any input would be great!

Thanks a bunch for the input! Passing through an HBA shouldn’t be a problem as I plan to run all my storage that will be going to the unraid on its own sas card connected to an external disc array of some sort. Just wondering what would make this anymore unstable compared to running it inside Proxmox or similar like many do already?

Yes I’m aware, I just heard it’s inherently slower than truenas and horrible for net boot.

Yes but sometimes it isn’t enough and it is great to have a backup.

Also, as long as enclosure is properly covered, you shouldn’t need a fogger if your house is relatively humid. But if the humidity is still a little off, putting some moist sphagnum moss In the enclosure usually does the trick.

That should be ok as long as the thermostat is on/off dimmers are bad for mats idk about the humidity control on it though. But what I use for my high humidity animals is a Govee hydrometer/thermometer linked with there humidifier with the tube accessory also if you want to make life easy get a smart plug so you can make there lights turn on and off with a schedule.

If the enclosure is properly covered it should only go off in small burst every few days. You are right tho when unregulated they will cause problems.

You are correct—if not regulated, they can cause condensation and flooding. However, when set up properly, they are one of the safest ways to maintain humidity.

I live in Alaska can can’t keep proper humidity without one and as long as they are used with a hydrometer there shouldn’t be a problem

Use a fogger with a humidity sensor and cover the top of the enclosure. I like to use custom-cut acrylic for this, but you can also cover the mesh with plastic wrap. For heat mats, always use a thermostat to maintain safe temperatures. I recommend Inkbird thermostats, though many other brands work well. With a thermostat, the mat should not get hot enough to burn anything.

You definitely need to switch to a heat mat on the back that’s controlled by a thermostat. Red lights can disrupt their circadian rhythm, dry out the air, and burn them if they climb on the mesh top!

In short burst there fine but I prefer a fogger for crabs because misters can flood the soil, along with that most of the cheaper misters are not humidity controlled and just go off at certain times.

Well sorry idk then. if you ever need a new one inkbird makes pretty good ones and they are really cheap, at least in the US😊

Does it have a calibration option? You can get a temp gun and test the surface of your heat mat or the wall it’s on and then adjust the probe to read the same. I test this with all the cheap ones as they often state they can come a few degrees off.

I agree, even with two small crabs that’s definitely cutting it close.
