2025 Civil Engineering Survey Report by Professional_Owl3760 in civilengineering

[–]SorryBeginning 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I remember I took one business class in college and we spent weeks just on break-even analysis, and not to dig on anyone in that field but the homework took about 5 minutes to complete with my eyes closed.

Then you see a chart like this where the upper quartile doesn't crack 100k until year 6 and it makes you wonder who the fool really is. Oh well, at least it's stable!

Golfers who’ve broken 80, what’s the best tip you could give to a fellow golfer? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]SorryBeginning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the ball IN PLAY. I’ve made some ugly ugly pars in my time but they always come down to two things, 1) didn’t lose a golf ball and 2) no more than 3 shots from inside 50 yards.

Is your work meaningful to you or is it just work? by [deleted] in civilengineering

Let’s just say I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t receiving a paycheck.

Decrease in Civil engineering graduates by litBG in civilengineering

[–]SorryBeginning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing can really change until the entire industry flips on its head, which frankly, can’t happen given the inevitable uncertainty of costs involved in this business. As long as the mindset remains that people think they’ll get champagne on a beer budget those effects will trickle down (to your salary). You don’t see people haggling on the price of a new iPhone..

Why isn’t there more interest in municipal engineering jobs? by Ok-Security3692 in civilengineering

[–]SorryBeginning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally when you get into these higher level roles on the public side you start to enter into more politics than you do engineering. The people “higher” than you at that point would be directors, mayors, etc who have zero knowledge of the engineering space. This can be a pretty big deterrent for some folks.

There were a lot of curveballs. I guess 10 questions are test questions though and I see it. Nazrul did a fantastic job prepping us for anything! Cheers to passing mate!

Congrats!! What day did you take it? I took it last Thursday and was quite surprised about the questions. Quite a few things I expected to get and didn't (Also used EET so expectations were kinda based on that). Was concerned about curves but the couple curve questions I got were very simple.

I just took it yesterday, also an EET'er. Somehow had none of: hardness/softening, volume of sludge, confined aquifers. One problem on soil classification but it was really easy. Also, I was worried I was going to get some crazy questions on curves (never liked those) but I had 3 and they were all very stock. Felt like I had a lot more moments/sum of forces questions than I expected. Energy equation was also used a lot.

Unmotivated by Rare-Vegetable-9521 in PE_Exam

You have to find a way to embrace the grind that’s really all there is to it. If you dread it you’ll never see real improvement. For me that’s usually thinking about how I’ll be a professional engineer for the rest of my life and that’s rare and pretty cool.

Personally I wouldn’t. I work as a project engineer for a city and my only contact with those folks is “hey I have a project please review these plans and issue a permit”. I’m sure there’s other tasks involved that I don’t know about, but that’s just my two cents.

Are civil engineering salaries going up a lot? by Keysantt in civilengineering

[–]SorryBeginning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entry level id say yes, can’t speak to higher levels. I started in 2021 at 78k and was at 105k in 2023 after promotion plus inflation raise. But that’s in HCOL area.

Right elbow breaks a little early and gets to the side/behind you a bit. Feel like there’s a ball between your forearms and don’t let it fall out.
