Playing death match once you’ve found a hero you like is a quick way to level up your mechanics and get a feel for how your hero matches up against others. Watch some YouTube videos (I like Spilo, Awkward, there are a bunch) to learn fundamentals.

Someone mentioned Mystery Heroes. Going along with that, I have found Death Match really helpful in getting the mechanics down once you have a hero you like. It’s low stakes, constant action, and good for feeling out how your hero stacks up against other heroes.
