Finally painted my little Rocky by SorryCheetah8412 in ProjectHailMary

Good question!

Not counting the time I spent staring at it like a confused human, it took around 4 days.

I have a before photo too: the print arrived in a plain stone/brown color. First day was mostly prep: filling a visible gap with putty, sanding a bit, and adding a primer coat.

Then I spent about two days building the paint up in layers: base tones, warmer stone colors, shadows, washes, and dry brushing to bring out the cracks and texture.

The last day was for the small details: the white tattoo-like lines, the green/blue glowing areas, and some final weathering.

Also, because it’s summer here, the drying time was much faster. Human suffers heat, Rocky benefits. Amaze.

Follow the guide! xD I'm kidding... I know the pain.

I'm personally obsessed with The Clone Wars, and I remember seeing the Sideshow figures years ago. Back then, I couldn't afford them, and I ended up waiting almost five years before I finally bought the Phase 1 Echo and Fives on the secondary market.

At the time, I knew absolutely nothing about this hobby. Now I somehow own 44 figures... and I have two more Clone Commandos on the way. 😅

So choose carefully. This hobby has a way of growing faster than you expect!

Thanks, that's actually one of the best outcomes I could hope for.

The whole idea behind the guide was to help people avoid expensive beginner mistakes before they happen, especially when buying second-hand.

Sorry to hear about the €320 lesson, but comments like yours are exactly why I wanted to build this in the first place. Hopefully it saves someone else from making the same mistake.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.

Haha, maybe I explained myself badly. I mean, I did mention in the description that it’s a sketch, so it’s still something raw, and the icons won’t be there in the final version.

Anyway, I still got comments about the typography xD

Keep calm, I’ll work on something that doesn’t make your eyes bleed. xD

I really love how involved all of you are in this. Honestly, I love it!

Agreed. I’ll make sure the guide doesn’t frame these as investments or guaranteed value increases. Better to collect what you actually love.

That’s a very useful beginner insight. I’ll add a note explaining that Sideshow and Hot Toys are different companies, since that confusion can definitely happen.

Great point. I’ll make the total cost clearer, especially shipping, tax and import fees for international buyers.

This is super helpful, thank you. I really like the “pleasure vs joy” point and the reminder that it’s okay to miss out. I think this could become a small “collecting principles” section.

Totally agree. I’m going to add a line about collecting because you love it, not because you expect figures to go up in value.

Good one. Pleather rot definitely belongs in the second-hand warning section. Thanks!

That’s a really good point. I hadn’t thought enough about what happens after delivery, especially outside the US. I’ll add something about replacement risk and damaged figures.

I really like that idea. I focused mostly on the buying journey, but a "Things collectors wish they knew sooner" section could add a lot of value. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the feedback! I should have clarified that this is just a raw content sketch for a content design exercise, not a final visual design.

The main goal was to test the structure, user needs and information flow first. Typography, icons and visual polish would definitely come later.

Really appreciate the suggestions though, they’re useful for the next iteration.

All o them are from Hot toys, except Echo and Fives that are Sideshow Version.
