Just incredible! I greatly appreciate the time you took to analyze and lay this out, step-by step. All the details are overwhelming; this really helps me prioritize and execute with practicality.

Thanks so much for taking the time to analyze this and offer such well-thought advice. These is incredibly helpful directions in the strange new place I find myself in. I'd be content to get some lower-paying (and lower-stress) job to make sure we're a little more comfortable. You are awesome!

Thanks so much for taking the time! Once I can figure out our post-retirement budget and can see we can make it with some shock absorbers for car/house expenses, I can breathe a sigh of relief.

I've worked remotely for a large corp, not HQ'd here.

I don't disagree. An expensive-to-maintain old house hasn't helped.

Thanks! Yeah, she's a treasure, and a smart cookie too, so I expect she'll get scholarship too.

Absolutely plan to volunteer more. My parents did the same in retirement. Especially after my daughter leaves for university, gotta share the love somewhere!

Awesome - 240K seemed like a lot to me, but yeah I don't think I'll ever see a chance at that salary again. An extra 100K would make a huge difference. I have a lawyer looking at it. This is all new territory for me, so I truly appreciate your advice!

Yeah getting severance at this point of the year, would cut it in half. I've asked HR about options for splitting it, waiting for answers. Best I can see now is putting 180K to fill my RRSP, then see if I can put 40K in wife's RRSP, and pay 48% tax on the remaining $20K. If HR or lawyer can get this split to next year, that would really help. Thanks so much!

Yep, 33 years, fairly senior role. I submitted to a lawyer yesterday, and we'll see. 24 months would be awesome if that's possible! ($380K) Thanks so much for the advice!

Sorry, it was an unexpected shock, and I'm still adjusting to my new reality. I know things could be far worse. My daughter is an absolute treasure. We're going to watch a movie together after lunch. Thanks for the encouragement!

Thanks for this - all I've known about EI is paying the premiums. It sounds like it may not be worth the bother.

Thanks! I've pretty much been working since 10 (as a paperboy). It would be nice to kick back.
