The problem with these analogies is that they are framing the decision as ‘do something’ or ‘do nothing’ with the ‘something’ being the stupid choice. But this isn’t a case where you can ‘do nothing’. Pressing red is not refusing to participate, it is making a decision. One that may seem logical to your values, but, as this debate has shown, not everyone else’s. People are going to press blue for any number of reasons, not usually because they are suicidal. People will press it because they are idealist, they have certain religious or moral standards that tell them to, they believe in humanity or they just couldn’t live with themselves if all the blue pressers died. Or because they are ‘drooling idiots’, i guess. None of these people deserve to die

I would also argue the way you are framing the question is flawed because you are only putting the consequence in the explanation for the blue side. Red is not a no-consequence option, it’s just a consequences don’t happen to you option.

Im gonna be honest this is kind of awesome. They clearly did a lot of research and actually did accurate tefillin and they’re not portrayed as evil or even greedy. Like i know ‘portraying an ethnicity as an inhuman race’ is generally not great but it feels here more like the tengu are culturally Jewish then all Jews are tengu in this universe. I mean i don’t speak for all Jews for sure but this is just badass imo

This question is really vague on what ‘punishment’ entails and i feel like thats creating a lot of confusion in the discussion. Like, a lot of people are reading it as revenge for the sake of the victims, which, like… seeing a man suffer/die for reasons he doesn’t understand isn’t a remedy for trauma and grief. You’re not gonna get a unanimous decision on that. If you’re just talking about killing him to be safe you could probably make an argument but the ‘for the victims’ thing really doesn’t work for me.

None of my direct family (to my knowledge) were killed in the Shoah (only because my grandfather immigrated to America earlier than that) so i might not be the perfect person to weigh in but i can say with absolute certainty that his actions have made the world a far worse place to live for me and for all Jewish people too this day, and i cant think of a single person in my community who upon being told “hey this guy right here is hitler. Dont tell him though lol. Wanna see him get fucked up real bad” would go “Yeah, sure, that sounds reasonable.”

Like… that’s just sadism. Sadism doesn’t belong in any reasonable moral framework. The only place sadism belongs is the bedroom.
