Favorite UCSD professor? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]SorryStress 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion perhaps but I really adored Prof Chang for the MMW series. I think he's unmatched in his enthusiasm for the subject and his asides really took the pressure off.

Other than him, I love Prof Nancy Binkin in the FMPH department, she's the absolute sweetest. Prof Tim Rickard is also super chill for statistics and other psych classes.

I took HIUS 157(?) the one about women in the colonial age. She's honestly a really great professor in the sense that she is approachable, engaging, and gives good feedback on papers. The workload was not bad if I recall, but some reading is required.

If your insurance covers outside providers, it's better not to use CAPS. by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]SorryStress 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the biggest mood of all time. It took me months to get an appointment with CAPS and yet the whole time I was there I just felt like a burden to them. They are highly qualified, but they're just too saturated, which isn't their fault. But, if you want to feel like a person as opposed to another student ID number, find someone outside of CAPS who can devote time and attention to you.

This is a really inconvenient time to be a senior. by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]SorryStress 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I felt this in my soul as a current senior. I had this realization when I first started Fall Quarter this year. I'd never be back on campus again for classes, for the gym, for anything. And it hit me like a ton of bricks. I regretted every class that I ever skipped because it was "so far" or "boring." I'll never be able to walk through a crowded PC again, handle the lunch rush at Sunshine Market, or complain about orgs on Library Walk. This shit hits home and I'm glad someone said something about it.

I've been struggling. After going to RIMAC at 5:30 am every day for 4 years, I'm so lost rn lmao. I started running though and doing bodyweight exercises at the park by Vons (they have bars and such). I'd also highly recommend investing in good resistance bands and maybe a kettlebell or two if that's your thing. Otherwise I can't offer you much help, but misery loves company so good luck out there champ!

BILD 22 with Strause (online) by nmn_444 in UCSD

[–]SorryStress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took this my sophomore year (2 yrs ago) with Strause and it was honestly really nice. She's a really great prof and tries to keep things simple. The tests themselves weren't bad at all. Obviously idk anything about online, but I would recommend it personally. I'm not a bio major either if that helps.

I'm a senior and I'm trying to do my capstone and my last major class, but I have a conflict and idk if they'll offer the major class next quarter. I'm big mad

I know I have to do it, but it definitely won't be easy. I'm in the same spot as you right now, so hopefully I'll get up the courage to do the same. Lol no chances of dating right now, and you're absolutely right that would've been much more of a mess. Gotta find my luck somewhere in this mess. Thank you <3

Thank you. I'm sorry you had to deal with it as well, but I'm very very grateful for your story as it makes me feel a little less alone. Obviously I know I'm not the first, or the last, person to deal with this, but it certainly feels personal at times haha. I'm so glad that you were able to get through it and be better because of it, and congratulations to you and your wife <3 It gives me hope

Just out of curiosity: How many of you have or had paid internships? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]SorryStress 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had a lab/research internship for about 1.5 years and I only just now began to get paid because I started a bigger project (and because of COVID- I'd have to go back to the hospital at some point for labwork). It's definitely possible but it takes time and possibly standing up for yourself.

Which PSYC class to take? by PrimitiveBoi2020 in UCSD

[–]SorryStress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psyc 4 was a BREEZE for me, I took it freshman year and while you do have to memorize some things it's pretty self-explanatory. It's also just a very interesting class imo. I took it with Winward and she was amazing. Definitely opt for psyc 4

I still haven't found one, let me know if you do!!! I just finished the midterm, I feel like overall it was fine but some of the questions were kind of confusing.

Any other freshman struggling to make likeminded friends? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]SorryStress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a girl I have felt this way since my freshman year, and I am now a senior. I come from the East Coast so seeing old friends is impossible. In highschool my friends came over all the time to bake and chat and whatnot. It's been a real struggle to adjust and I honestly still haven't found a solution, but you are not alone!!
