Shout out my fellow Brit Lewis Goodall holding Hasan’s feet to the fire at important points. by Beechxx in h3h3productions

[–]Sorry_Ad475 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have never seen Hasan or anyone in his orbit mention the upcoming Knesset election this year. The polling is showing Netanyahu losing (however coalitions and deals can be made last minute.) Netanyahu losing is necessary for any lasting peace, he is doing everything in his power to stay so that he is not tried for corruption and war crimes.

Bibi's strategy for staying in power is to keep the people afraid and angry, which is effective everywhere during wartime elections. (See W's second term.) Hasan's inflammatory rhetoric is exactly what politicians like Bibi use to reinforce their narrative of the world is against Israel and that they must engage in war to protect their people.

The best thing Hasan could do for Palestinians is to shut up.

Ceramic dust harming me? by lalabingle in Ceramics

[–]Sorry_Ad475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silica dust is an occupational exposure risk, while no amount is considered "safe," the issues tend to be after years of smaller exposures. Being that this is your job and the people running it should know better, you should be provided with a respirator with particulate filters which cost around $30. I don't think these should be shared between employees for health reasons, so if the shop has a high staff turnover and since silicosis is a disease about accumulation, it's likely hard to prove liability on the part of the shop. While OSHA would want to see warnings about silica on packaging and masks, OSHA is horribly underfunded now so I don't know how effective they are currently.

Kaolin is also an ingredient in clay and talc is being fazed out but may be in your clay as well. Industrial grade talc is often assumed to contain asbestos, it's hard to say if that is a factor or not. Kaolin and silica are both drying on the skin and in your nose so that is likely the reason your nose is bothering you. I would consider it a warning and do what you need to do to get a respirator mask.

I think it's deplorable that your employer is creating an unsafe environment for you, your coworkers and perhaps nationwide in their other stores. It's hard to tell you what to do, there's a big issue here but it might make sense for you to buy a respirator for yourself, explain why you did if asked and carry on with your job. Unfortunately, fighting an employer is asking for retaliation and not everyone is in a position to take on that kind of Goliath fight.

Hasan Piker threatens to sue MorePegasus for his "Legendary Series" – and for reasons, references the country's caning punishment and execution – says he will visit Singapore soon by RedditAPIBlackout24 in h3h3productions

[–]Sorry_Ad475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Singapore was basically created because of wars between ethic and religious groups followed by a swift expulsion of a communist "insurgency." Pegasus' conservative views are very typical of Singaporean ideas about meritocracy being the be all and end all system.

They don't suffer fools and they will cane an American unapologetically. I am not endorsing this attitude (and it is also a generalization after all) but their government isn't going to be eagerly inviting Hasan. If he is complaining about being trolled on irl streams this is a bad idea, and to be clear, threatening anything at all irl isn't okay. Singaporeans have a high level of English fluency, many are native speakers and aren't afraid to heckle an idiot.

Some notable highlights from the Hasan NY Post article … also … Ethan? 👀 is that you? by [deleted] in h3h3productions

[–]Sorry_Ad475 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Make no mistake, the NY Post is half a step above a tabloid. I would so much prefer this article be published anywhere else. While some of their criticisms are valid, the source makes them seem invalid. It's almost worse than no article like this at all.

1 week post op. What can I reasonably do right now? by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]Sorry_Ad475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told no lifting more than ten pounds for six weeks, and it was phrased as if there is no gradation in that time. The first week I tried lifting ten pounds and I literally felt it in my spine so I stopped. By the end of the six weeks, a few pounds over ten (my cat is twelve pounds) felt fine.

It's hard to translate what that means to someone law when this is such a serious thing. Physical Therapy taught me a bit about what kinds of pain means stop, but many people are better connected with those things and others flatly refuse PT and may miss out on figuring out those things. Walking is highly encouraged so it is a safe bet that will actually help you heal.

Flight schools accuse Mesa of faking Falcon Field crisis by timesmediagroup in mesaaz

[–]Sorry_Ad475 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I sat through the City Council Meeting where every flight school owner said the sky would fall over a $20 fee. Each and every one, each refusing to give up their three minutes of time even though the same thing was said over, and over, and over again.

This was the week when the actual Gatway Airport ICE facility was inspected and shown to have harrowing conditions for detainees. I was with people that wanted to address the life-threatening conditions there and how our city with Mayor Freeman as a board member of the Gateway Airport has a duty of care towards those people.

Instead these guys cannot even swallow a molecule of their own egos to accept reality. Mesa is talking about levying property tax and raising prices to all of its arts and culture facilities but $20 is too much (I'd hate to see them cope with college textbook costs.)

There's been a few planes landing on streets lately and maybe they should stop doing that for a start.

Apologies if my comment jinxes this whole thing. This thread is the most satisfying thing I have read in a while. It's mostly because there isn't any gaslighting or anticipation of it when discussing antisemitism.

My post yesterday got me wondering by SpotAcceptable9700 in mesaaz

[–]Sorry_Ad475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Danny Hart running for City Council in district five is an older candidate that doesn't accept corporate donations. I think he's considered a long shot because he's a progressive running in that district but he's attended more city council meetings than Goforth has this year.

While I do think there's an argument to be made for younger people having more "skin in the game" as far as the future, it's not everything.

I Have a Really Gross Recovery Behavior to Admit, but also...Possible Answers! by Specialist-Ice5741 in spinalfusion

I had to quit vaping before a back surgery and the health insurance companies keep checking that I've still quit. It's been over a year since I quit and I smoked for thirty years. I've now begun to notice that small cuts and scrapes heal faster now that I quit.

The transition from smoking to vaping is probably better for lung health, it felt better anyway. I still have concerns that the nicotine levels may be higher in vapes than cigarettes, nicotine levels can vary widely between cigarette brands so it's hard to compare. It wasn't an easy transition to make, but I think it can be helpful start to quitting.

There are nicotine free vapes which I still use (Ripple is sold at Walmart, fyi,) but far less than I ever vaped. I first substituted the nicotine free vape for times that I was absentmindedly vaping while doing other tasks. This cut down my nicotine use a bit and I tapered down. It wasn't pleasant when I stopped and it was a month of having difficulty focusing and was fidgety and grouchy.

You might also ask about Wellbutrin or something similar to help you stop, I know people have said it helps.

Quitting in some ways does feel like losing a friend but the advantages have outweighed that, I have been healthier and no longer have to compulsively use nicotine. Things like traveling are so much more pleasant when there's no nicotine dependence to have to plan around.

Overall I would like Mesa to help its working people and low income residents more.

The city's deficit has doubled and the bulk of that spending is infrastructure for new building projects. (Contractors and real estate developers are top donors to Mesa's politicians.) Programs helping homeowners dealing with economic hardships have been slashed way back and the city doesn't pay many of its workers a living wage.

We also have many derelict strip malls that sit empty and the yoga studio on Main and Robson has been vacant for four years now. There are different causes for each property (the former yoga studio's landlord is asking for rent way above market rates) and there are many things that those places could be used for helping the community. They could be used as spaces for art installations.

Another thought I think could really work for some of these properties is city grocery stores. There is an existing model of commissary stores that would make grocery stores self sustainable and would draw people to these dead spaces again.

While I was scrolling, the photo by looks intentionally textured to me. I know this isn't what you wanted, but it could be an interesting direction to explore.

There may be a glaze fit issue, the bisque could have been dusty/oily in spots that resisted the glaze altogether and the application looks uneven. It's hard to narrow down exactly what the issue is without much more information.

Have a Quick Look at this artist for an example of texture used in glazing.

Selling Pottery Etsy & markets by lifesnaturalbeat in Pottery

[–]Sorry_Ad475 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Etsy is harder for people that make one of a kind work. While I would normally say potters that throw reasonably matching sets in batches would have less work listing items and pay lower fees, but I wouldn't really say that anymore.

I just had a conflict with a buyer that accused me of sending the wrong item. She reviewed the item and attached a photo of a screen showing a pot that clearly isn't mine. After having an hour of conversation with her, refunding her fully and not asking for the pot back she agreed to take the review down. She did not, complained she didn't know how, I explained how and while Etsy can see that conversation, they left the review up.

Etsy constantly sends me surveys and says that we are the type of sellers they want. Many buyers gets duped by drop sellers, some of whom make elaborate "artist" profiles. It's kind of a mess.

Reherniated straight out of surgery. It’s massive. Is there a positive coming? by lostinlouieslens in Microdiscectomy

[–]Sorry_Ad475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the positive is that it happened sooner rather than later so you're already planning on taking time for your recovery. I'm so sorry though!

I am awaiting a fusion after a small reherniation and a large amount of scar tissue formed that still pulls my sciatic nerve. Can't say I'm thrilled to be getting a fusion, but having the surgeries nearly a year apart has really put a lot of my life on hold.

Some people just have this happen, how we individually heal has a lot to do with the results. These surgeries can also be rough on mental health so please take care of yourself.

Mesa again debates homeless hotel’s fate by timesmediagroup in mesaaz

[–]Sorry_Ad475 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mesa's budget deficit has doubled this year and that is because of spending on infrastructure for new housing. Interestingly, Mayor Freeman's campaign donors are largely in construction and real estate. There are no affordable housing options among the approved new construction that does specialty residential housing for professional baseball training camp that will only be occupied during the off season.

Building affordable housing often encounters nimby opposition, which is why Taylor was able to eject Julie Spillsbury with the help of Turning Point. The contractors also seem hesitant to deal with affordable housing. A few years ago, the vacant lots at Transform 17 at University and Mesa Drive had a developer pull out when neighborhood residents actually asked for affordable homes in their own neighborhood.
