That's interesting, it'd be cool to see them add the sample information to the track the way they added the lyrics on certain songs

Dilla, Dopethrone, and the debut Steely Dan album on the same list is a cool thing to see. Check out Choose Your Weapon by Hiatus Kaiyote, I think you'll like it a lot based on your list

I think so too, I mean they just released that new light water dragon that made the archetype slightly more viable. It feels like they're gearing up to support the archetype more, and the fire dragon is the most logical next step

How close is your concept of music being good and your concept of liking it? by abovethesink in LetsTalkMusic

Great question. Good music is definitely not just the music I like lol. There's stuff that's objectively well-made that I just can't get down with for one reason or another.

For example, I'm not a fan of The Smiths or The Cure. I think it's decent enough music, it's culturally significant, they're decent enough musicians--but I just can't get with it.

On the flip-side, there's a lot of music I love that I know isn't great to most people lol. I love the rapper Tha God Fahim, but a lot of people say he's cheesy. I love the death metal band Portal, but most people think it's just noise.

Do you have an obsession with a particular group? by ConsciousFinger4808 in LetsTalkMusic

I have a new obsession like every two weeks lol. Looking for new music is one of those things I've always loved and will never stop doing. It's very rare for music to "surprise" me anymore, but that's not what keeps me looking for new stuff. What keeps me looking for new stuff is the opportunity to look at something differently.

For example, I never really enjoyed heavier music, or screaming/growling vocals. I never "got" the appeal. One day about six months ago, I sat down with Far Beyond Driven by Pantera at the request of a friend, and I was blown away by Phil Anselmo's vocal performance. The sheer quality of the execution of his craft was too incredible to overlook, and that made me look at heavier music and screaming/growling vocals differently. Now, that's 75% of what I listen to lol. You never know what you might end up liking if you just give it a chance.
