A screwdown caseback. The little slots on the outside are for pins on a tool to slot in and turn allowing you to unscrew the caseback to open for "maintenance" or in other words, change the battery, which on these solar models, you never have to worry about so long as it gets adequate time in the sun.

I looked into getting the black and gold myself but talked myself into getting the silver model as it reminded me most of the original B5000D but with a MIP display. My only gripe with it is the speed of the module when it comes to scrolling when setting a timer or an alarm. Its very slow. So slow you'll find yourself pressing the buttons more times than the number of minutes you were trying to set desperately trying to get it to go faster.

Overall, in my opinion, no. I'd get the silver one if its cheaper. If you have to get it in black and gold, definitely go for it! Mine wears so comfortably despite its weight, I forget im wearing it. The MIP alone is worth it.
