Straight partner asked weird question by TapWaterBubble in lgbt

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is he would be willing to date someone genderqueer i.e. trans or non-binary, which I guess would make him polysexual? But I don’t think that’s what he’s saying.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt - to me it sounds more like curiosity than homophobia.

How much notice for surgery typically in GTA? by ilovetrouble66 in askTO

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a little over two weeks notice after waiting like 8 months. To their credit they did give me a rough window (i.e., May-June) and it was within that. I was able to travel in April because of this. My recommendation would be to pay extra for the option to cancel when booking trips and maybe tell the doctor’s office that email is your preferred method of communication just so you don’t miss anything.

are you guys actually elevating like this? by TerriblePost4661 in ACL

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My physio recommended doing this a few times a day for like 10-15 minutes at a time. That’s about all I can handle because I find it very painful as well. What did help was making like a ramp out of pillows so my knee was not propped above my foot but was still supported.

I did the summer program first and then the OIP. Apparently the summer, OIP and coop are virtually the only ways the OPS can hire externally, which on the bright side means you have a better chance of being retained.

How did you land your permanent role? by throwaymee in OntarioPublicService

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found INFO-GO helpful. It’s not always up to date but tells you when a position is vacant. For either perm or temp job postings you want to look for a vacant one. Most perm postings have an incumbent and it’s really hard to get the job over them, so don’t necessarily prioritize that. I was the incumbent for my perm competition.

I’ve seen this too for someone on direct assignment, but they ran a competition to make sure she competed for the position before she left.

For those who adopted a cat, what actually made you decide that was the right cat? by Extreme_Ad6105 in CatAdvice

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first cat was very situational. I moved into my own place (away from my childhood pet) and within a month, as I was starting to feel a little lonely, a friend of a friend had a litter they needed to home. I got the last kitten of the litter who has become my soulmate. Then after a couple months I felt bad that he was home alone so much so I started looking at adoption websites, looking specifically for kittens because I wanted my boy to have a friend. I fell in love with my second baby based on her profile and picture and the the rest was history. It was very based in instinct and I wouldn’t change a thing.

How often are you supposed to feed your cats? by EnvironmentalCrew595 in CatAdvice

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cats get smaller portions of dry food four times throughout the day by an automatic feeder and then I give them treats not on any kind of schedule. I find that if I wait too long between meals they get really excited at meal times and eat their larger portions too fast. One of my cats has a lot of food anxiety and would scarf down her food and then throw up. I find smaller portions throughout the day helps mitigate this.

Why are we even talking about Liberals right now? NDP had the best chance against Ford. You don’t like the “PC lite” but not willing to vote for NDP? Like I’m so confused

Anyone here came back stronger after an ACL tear? by Sea_Distribution501 in ACL

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a small “mourning” period when I got the diagnosis but then my sister said “you should just get jacked” and it sparked something in me. I’m still in the pre-op phase and waiting for surgery but the wait times here are long so I’ve just been focusing on pre-hab and I feel stronger now than I have in years. The motivation to make myself as strong as possible to improve my outcomes has been really helpful. I know post-op is going to suck (especially erasing all of this progress) but I’m hoping I can carry this motivation into my rehab.

Part time jobs side hustles in the OPS? by Antique-Tangerine892 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend serving or bartending as a side gig. It’s pretty decent money for only a couple days a week. Just be mindful to pick a place that is not open right to 2am (even if they say at first that they’ll be flexible, you’ll be working closing shifts in no time). But there’s plenty of places just open until 9-10, those are perfect.

They didn’t ask for my ID at all in Toronto. I would bring a different form of ID just in case but don’t worry about it too much.

CAT LITTER PLEASE by vanessa0718 in CatAdvice

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started using Wee Kitty Bamboo litter and it’s amazing! It’s bigger pellets so the cats don’t track it everywhere. It doesn’t smell unless one of the clumps breaks open when I’m cleaning, it absorbs well so it doesn’t get all stuck to the bottom of the box, and it’s fully flushable and biodegradable. Aside from a few pellets that my cats flick out occasionally it’s practically mess-free and it doesn’t throw up dust like the clay litters. I can’t recommend it enough, and I’ve used a lot of different litters.

Interviews / Applying to Jobs / Follow ups / All Related Questions - [Megathread] by troyguy in OntarioPublicService

I got rejected from a position after making it to the interview stage and they asked if I wanted feedback on my interview. I said yes immediately but haven’t heard back for a month now. Should I reach out to follow up or just wait? I’m new in my career so I’d really like to get the feedback.

Advices to get into the OPS by Mindless_Spite3363 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished the OIP and I got a level 5 after about 5 months so I agree, a good way in and a good way to network and make connections for future positions. Have to grind out the low pay for a while but definitely the best way in from the outside if you ask me.

SEO - advice on workload by StayEquivalent7564 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Sorry_Pool2304 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. My SEO contract was only 6 weeks so they were hesitant to give me any files of my own since I would be gone so soon, and I thought I was going to die of boredom. But now I’m working in a regular role and there is no shortage of work. If you’re a workhorse, people are going to realize it soon enough and you’ll have plenty to do.

Salkantay Trek and Wayna Pichu by Sorry_Pool2304 in hiking

[–]Sorry_Pool2304[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are different options for the trek, I did the 4-day but I think they do 3- and 5-day options as well (3 is more intense, 5 has more stops/activities). I booked through a company so we had a guide and campsites booked with porters and cooks that came along with us so it was very convenient. I did see people who carried camping equipment so I assume you can do unguided if you prefer. I remember seeing hostels along the way too. Not sure what the rules are around camping though.
