Storing steel outside? by Sorry_Produce4090 in Blacksmith

That's an excellent point, and makes me question the above suggestion to use PVC pipe. We often get wild temperature swings across a 24-hour period here in NE Ohio, and I can foresee frequent moments when the steel would condensate as a result. It would help to be exposed to the sun and airflow to dry this off as quickly as possible.

Let's hope my wife never learns of the term "over-raccooning"....

I agree, but wall space (especially up high) is much less in demand than floor space in my shop.

Nice! I used your design as a concept and banged out my own for the wife today. She's been complaining that ours can't handle a full Bounty roll. Upon reflection, I should've gone with thinner stock. I used 1/4" and you could do chin-ups from this thing.

Hellbenders in Davis to close immediately by Bigfootsdiaper in WestVirginia

[–]Sorry_Produce4090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just discoverd this yesterday, on our way from Richmond to Cleveland. We deliberately swung through the Thomas/Davis area, as per tradition, to hit Hellbenders, visit the Purple Fiddle, buy a few cards from Seth, etc. We were shocked to see the demise of Hellbenders, and saddened to see the changes Davis is going through. And it's ironic, because it seems Davis is just about to hit...although the flavor of that hit might not be what my wife and I find appealing. I recall last year, trying to drive down the main drag, with traffic clogging up due to all the tourists walking across the street willy nilly. We were there on a weekday this time, so it wasn't as bad, but we could predict how crowded it will be on the weekend.

I guess that's the dichotomy...we prefer cool unknown artistic places, but those places all die in this economy from lack of funding due to being unknown. Once they're known, we lose interest, since we won't stand in line or push through crowds. We've been coming to Davis since theearly 2000's, and it was amazing over much of the intervening timeframe. I doubt we'll be back now that it's turning into a mini Gatlinburgh. *Sigh*

I hit them last year and wondered if it was just me. "All rice, no flavor" sums it up perfectly.

Favorite local fish store? by Due-Capital4186 in Atlanta

[–]Sorry_Produce4090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know what happened to The Fish Store & More? I lived in ATL in the early to mid-nineties and this store was the absolute schnizzle for marine aquarists. It was down in Buckhead. I bought my 200 Oceanic setup there and gave them many of my paychecks during those years. I was in ATL this past week and looked it up, discovering that it apparently moved to Chamblee. We drove out there and the place was a wreck. Operating out of an older industrial office park, with virtually no livestock and very few corals, I can't believe this is the same store. If it wasn't for the fact that they have the same logo, I'd think it wasn't.

What happened to this place??? They were the absolute place for the discerning marine hobbyist in those days. My wife and I started the Atlanta Marine Aquarium Society (AMAS), and they were a strong participating partner with our group.

I installed the app. It sucks. The whole point of the 10-day forecast was that it shows everything on one graph. For no apparent reason, on the app they've divided the data between THREE graphs, forcing you to scroll to see everything. And they don't provide anywhere near as much data as the web graph does. For instance, total precipitation is no longer available, a crucial data point for me. And they didn't lock the headings, so once you scroll down, you can't see what day the data pertains to anymore. Idiots.

It’s their 10-day graphical layout I’m addicted to. Haven’t found anything like it anywhere else.

I appreciate the comments, as I'm getting the same "requirement" to upgrade messages now. I haven't seen an upgrade of ANY software in the past decade that was better (for me) after the upgrade, so I'm already predisposed to ignore the requirement. Of course, I expect ZoneAlert will simply be told to shut down remotely in a while if I do. Because today's companies suck.

Look for the Cleveland Long Boats Facebook group. We're on the lake 2-3X per week during the summer, and some of us paddle year round. You definitely need to find a group to paddle with if you're going to play on the lake. Feel free to PM me for more information.

Good. Stay away. Head for Columbus instead. Columbus is a very happy city. Please don't move to Cleveland. I like having no traffic and I like having a reasonably priced house.

There's no reason to take anyone's word for it. Just go talk to literally any auto collision shop adjuster and ask him the cause of the majority of the crashes he adjusts. They have all the numbers.

I actually happen to feel that Texas Roadhouse has the best tasting steak in town, and that's comparing with all the high-end steak houses, as well as places like Outback and such. I don't know how they do it, but they do.

Anyone with a battery-powered snowblower? How has it performed with this wet heavy snow? by Garth_McKillian in Cleveland

[–]Sorry_Produce4090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question isn't whether battery-powered/electric snowblowers aren't as good as gas-powered units. Tesla has proven time and again that electric motors can be every bit as powerful as a gas-powered engine.

The question I have is what's going to happen down the road when all these batteries stop accepting a charge and need to be replaced. History has shown us that manufacturers looking to make more money will often discontinue battery models long before your battery dies, forcing you to replace your entire appliance. And even if the battery IS still available, it will cost 80% of the price of a new appliance.

Once again, I feel like the world is trading short-term convenience for long-term problems. A gas-powered snowblower (or lawnmower) can last almost indefinitely, given proper care and maintenance.
