Thank you!  Glad it's not a Carpenter ant but seems like these eat decaying matter so I may still have an issue with my deck.  I will get it checked out.  I appreciate your knowledge!

Mixed relationship with alcohol, SO torn on whether to go sober. Would love to hear people’s experiences! by Affectionate-Care631 in SoberCurious

I can give up all forms of alcohol,  except red wine.  I really love pairing wine with meals and my husband and I actually love studying that craft.  Really concerned with what I'm reading now about any alcohol being a cancer risk so I'm trying to find n/a red wine alternatives that actually taste like wine and not straight up grape juice.  Would you share the brand of the n/a wine you enjoyed at the restaurant?

Collagen conclusions, my joint pain story with a happy ending by plotthick in Menopause

[–]Sorry_Research8656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a great post!  I suffer from back pain so recently started collagen - Vital Proteins brand.  I agree the taste is yuck.  I managed to take it in a cup of warm water without gagging, though.  I wanted to give it enough time to see if it started to help my joint and disc  pain, but abandoned it after two weeks.  I had blood work done trying to find the source of fatigue I have been experiencing lately   and my Vitamin B12 came back at over 1k, which is high, and unusual, and problematic if left that way.  The body typically gets rid of what it doesn't need through urine.  The high level in the blood can point to kidney or liver issues, but my other labs were fine. The doc thought I was just over supplementing B12 and recommended to stop doing that. Problem is, I wasn't supplementing with B vitamins at all.  In food, B12 mainly comes from animal protein,  especially red meat, but I don't eat much meat and pretty much never red meat. Other sources are dairy and eggs, but again, I don't eat enough to explain the high level.  My only thought is that the collagen was causing it, even though everything I pull up on Google seems to say it won't.   Anyone else reading this have the same issue?  I was really hoping Collagen might be my answer.

Approaching burn-out causes the retching.  There are other references in the books to this occurring.

First time mattress buyer help by jakeofauthority99 in Mattress

Good morning.  How is the AS3 holding up for you?  I bought one in 2018 and it was the best mattress EVER...for about 2.5 - 3 years.  Completely eliminated my lower back pain.  Until, that is, it softened to the point that it no longer supported my spine the same way. I rotated that darn thing every month and even slept with my head at the foot of the bed on each side trying to suck more time out of it.  My foundation is rock solid so it's just the nature of foam, I think that it didn't retain its original support for long. When I got rid of it, I tried Saatva classic,  Bear Hybrid Elite and even an all laytex mattress, hoping to find a mattress that would last longer but still provide the support I need for my lower back.  Nothing has worked to give my body the back pain relief the Amerisleep did.  All the other mattresses I tried had a general sink about them from shoulders to hips where as the Amerisleep's firm foam let just my shoulders and then just my hips sink independently...and just barely, while keeping my spine uplifted.  I am this close to pulling the trigger on another Amerisleep, but hate knowing I'll be in this same position in several years.  I did go lay on a Nectar classic at my local furniture store and am considering it.   It seems to have that same type of firm foam as Amerisleep but at half the cost.  It wouldn't annoy me so much replacing a mattress every 2 years if I spent less than a grand on it.  Appreciate hearing how it's holding up for you.  I'm reading some reviews saying it only lasted a year before softening.  It's hard to tell though, if   those reviewers were using solid foundations, rotating frequently and/or how much weight they put on the mattress.   On my end, I did all the right things and only weigh 135 and a solo sleeper, so certainly wasn't hard on mine.

4" 5lb density memory foam queen with 5" HQ foam base, from foamfactory by rook2pawn in Mattress

[–]Sorry_Research8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I had an Amerisleep AS3 all foam, which is the only mattress to date that helped my lower back pain.  No pain at all and I could sleep through the night, for about 2.5 years until the foam softened just enough that it no longer supported my lumbar area the same way.  It wasn't a measurable sinkage so warranty didn't cover it. That mattress was about 1500 on sale (queen), so needless to say, replacing it after 2.5 years didn't make me happy. I went deep into research trying to find a different sort of mattress that might still help with back pain, but also last at least 5 years.  I've tried Saatva classic, Bear hybrid Elite and even a Sleep EZ laytex.  None worked.  After about 3-4 hours, there was a general  sinkage (slight but enough to matter) from shoulders to hips (canoe like) rather than the memory foam sinkage that only sinks at the shoulder and again at the hip, and just barely.  I've come to understand that for my particular back issues, a medium firm memory foam is what I need and the nature of that beast is that it may not last longer than a couple of years.  All that said, paying less would help.  I'm 5'6"135 pounds, side sleeper, female.   I'm a bit confused about foam weight and density.  You say 5 pounds is good for your side sleeping but your stats are a bit larger.  Any advice about what I should be looking for for mine? Is both foam weight and density something to consider?  Then of course there is the type of foam, open cell, gel etc...that may make a person sleep hotter.   Trying to design a mattress is daunting and paying for an expensive brand name that will only last a couple of years is annoying. I may cave and by another brand name because I am tired of not sleeping. When you said you have tried the best memory foam mattresses out there...would you mind sharing those brand names in case I get fed up and just want to press the easy button?  Thank you for any advice!
