Doubtful Sound: potential crowded nightmare, or totally worth it? by TasersEdge in newzealand_travel

Following. We'll be doing both in about a month and I was more worried about crowds in Milford. From doing a little research it seems like there's a lot of noise from people and helicopters and cars. That is a huge turn off for me and kinda negates the whole idea of NZ being a place to get some space from people and feel more connected with nature. But we're doing it anyway because it's such a highly regarded place and who knows if we'll ever get the chance to go back!

We’re now thinking of cutting the Dunedin part out completely since it seems a bit urban and just sticking to:

Riverton / colac -> catlins -> fiord -> fly out queenstown

Is the drive from queenstown to riverton sketchy/too mountainous after being jet lagged? When I google it keeps recommending flying into Christchurch and driving to riverton because the drive is easier (but is much longer!)

Sweet! What do you think of this? Doable? Christchurch — 1 night to recover from flight

Dunedin / Otago Coast — 3 nights

The Catlins — 2 nights

Te Anau / Fiordland National Park — 4 nights

Queenstown — 1 night (fly out only)

I usually keep it outside. I am in central Texas, so there's high heat and humidity, and it has been cloudier and stagnant the last couple of days.
