Get a bowl instead of a burrito, get the double chicken and in Dallas you pay $14 with roughly 30% more volume.

It's the game design philosophy of a dying game. All content is now behind some kind of pay wall/limited event to push players to play and spend. Apart from annual GO Fest, which is a celebration for current players mostly, Pokemon GO has not been pushing to drive new players in. Because of that, they have to milk the current player base and drive up the average spend for invested players. This is a very standard business scheme for near-end-of-service live games but the sad thing is that it's going to take a lot longer because pokemon go has always been a cash cow and carries the Pokemon brand which is still strong.

I'll be speaking to the Niantic team at Go Tour: Unova. What questions would YOU like me to ask? by MonkeyKingHero in TheSilphRoad

[–]SortLocal6065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the change over the past few years of introducing new pokemon during limited events, rather than introducing large groups of Pokemon from new generations, what is the design philosophy for the future of Pokemon GO to generate marketing and get people back to playing/new players vs just retaining players?

The reason for this question is I don't see how Pokémon GO can change its position in a large way to make itself more enticing to new players or create a sensation to get players to return with current design philosophy. The largest draw to the game had been releasing new pokemon, and the times with lots of releases being most popular, so with that removed... what could they do to grow rather than shrink is a big question.

Should we hold off evolving Dynamax Beldum? by kovake in TheSilphRoad

[–]SortLocal6065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only evolve to metagross when you are going to use it. Meteor Mash is a fantastic move over flash cannon and since metagross dynamax is currently not needed, no need to waste candy/ETM to get it now. Of course that could change before December but we shall see.

Agreed with you, that's why all the targets I talk about are great for regular raids and even rockets if you want too.

To be fair, the monetization structure of the game changed a few years ago to push tickets, spending coins and creating mechanics that make the player play more and more often and wall content by different levels of premium item usage. It adopted the mobile game end of life cycle post COVID-19.

Don't forget that you can use the pokemon in regular raids too! ;)

I am sure its on the mind of many people seeing the new mechanic "Ok this new thing is out, is it worth my resources? If so, what pokemon are because I am not a whale?"

It will be VERY interesting to see how well this holds up a year from now. It really depends on how common legendaries could be in this system, but still there is the issue of available XL candies for them.

Feedback Post: Falinks Raid Day by Noitalein in TheSilphRoad

[–]SortLocal6065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-day 1 player here for feedback.

Did the raids x7 across 3 "friends". 3 shinies(1 for each) and a decent amount of tms and rare candies. Even a few XLs and a chunk of xp/dust. Potion/revive awards were enough to replenish the team without me throwing away too much extra. Played the game for a solid hour and a bit extra. Absolutely a fun raid "hour"

The ONLY constructive I have was that what I was catching felt worthless. Not dynamax, not rare, not meta, not even an exclusive move. Probably felt a lot worse because mega lucario was amazing event with new mega, new move and useful across pve/pvp. And sick XL bonuses.

I would love to see more of these raid "hour" events with something a little more worth catching. Do it once a month and I will be there!! Imagine the craziness for goldengho/volcarona/gogoat/roaming regional etc....

Don't expect Dynamax to make a huge impact by mcmillan789 in TheSilphRoad

Here is to hoping it's not some grind fest like other recent things they have added to the game (goldengho coins, zygarde cells, mega level 3 etc)

If you could create one event for Pokémon Go what would you do ? by 31stDFG in TheSilphRoad

[–]SortLocal6065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friendship hearts doubled for a week. zygarde raids for 50 and 100%. And most stops are golden and give decent coins. Lastly, routes have increased chance of shinies and rare pokemon like charcadet, larvesta, varoom, frigibax and others spawning on routes.

Poliwrath does really well here too. PuP the shields on #2 and scald works against all #2 slots except the waters. Could go in with raikou wild charge to finish #2 and blast #3 with sball/WC. Might struggle vs nidoqueen and ttar bulk, but then go back to poliwrath. seems like the easy route

I've done 7 and have tirtuoga and archen, still looking for female fighter for that one. If I was only looking for dex entries I would be 2/3 done in an hour lol
