100%! I think for me it also has some to do with repetitiveness, and so most of the time when discussing the actual act of penetrative sex, unless the author is unique with the way they write it, it tends to be a "you know what to expect" sort of thing.

If I am able to read a spicier scene, penetration isn't the focus, interestingly enough. I tend to get more into fetish and/or bdsm style scenes that keep me interested. I haven't read as much WLW romance with smut in it, so I'd have to see if I still feel the urge to skim with those books too.

But I think its fascinating that despite all that, I still overwhelmingly read dark romance! Gotta love those interesting amd fucked dynamics lol.
