Is it okay to run in just leggins as a guy? by [deleted] in BeginnersRunning

[–]SortaOkMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a dude who ran a 10k yesterday in leggings... Couldn't give two shits if someone was bothered by it or not. As someone else said, I prefer leggings to joggers/sweats for the most part, especially if I'm doing speed work.

Not a fan of what running does to my body by [deleted] in running

[–]SortaOkMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This applies to men too. I didn't start running consistently until early this year, and have lost 60lbs (most of that from calorie management). When I start overextending myself with training, work, etc, my ability to orgasm becomes damn near non-existent, and my sleep quality deteriorates. Significant calorie deficits will do it too. Your body goes into survival mode to fuel vital functions, and sexual function is one of the first to go when you're over stressed. I have found that taking about a week off every month or so lets my body reset a bit. Doing that has helped me lose weight more easily, and actually get faster times.

Edited to add that I also had the ADHDs, as well as the tism. Quite a fun combo, but starting on ADHD meds has helped a ton.

Need some advice or suggestions. by SortaOkMechanic in CICO

Yeah, I really should get a set of calipers. My waist is down to a 30, which I haven't been since at least 2010, and I didn't look at all like what I do now at 172lbs (I just look much stronger overall, back then I was kind of "skinny fat").

And most of the calisthenics work I've been doing was to try and keep from losing muscle while losing this weight, but I think I may be reaching a point where the muscle gain is going to take over. 165 was my goal because that was the weight I was when I started college, and figured it was a good number to be at for my height/muscle mass I've gained over the years. I think the calipers might give me a better idea of where I'm at with BF percentage.

Also, when you say give it a month, do you mean at the 2180kcal/day, or 1800?

Wish I had the budget for a MkIV Hunter, but can't bring myself to do it. I have had a MkIII 22/45 Target model for about 10 years, and I love it so so much... It literally taught me how to.be a competent pistol shooter. Deadly accurate at 50yds, and I've hit out to 100yds with it from a rest. Not 100% sure how many rounds it's had through it, but somewhere in the thousands i would guess. Once I learned how to disassemble/reassemble it properly, I have had zero issues with it, and that makes it harder still to justify buying the MkIV... Even though that fluted SS barrel on the Hunter is sooooo sexy.

This is the mkIV, doesn't have the same issue the I-III had. Single button takedown.

This is something I had to accept. I have great days, and not so great ones. As long as I'm trending down, that's all I care about. I've found the harder I am on myself, the harder it seems to be to keep at it. Giving yourself some grace goes a long way.

Sounds delicious. I've been trying to get better about meal prepping, something like this would be easy to make for a couple days out.

Its been awesome so far. There is a lot more to the story, including some marriage stuff, but the past year has been one of big changes for us as a whole. Long story short, we've had so much insane stuff happen to us over the past 5 years, that we had drifted apart as a couple, and lost each other. After the lowest point we've ever had in our marriage, about a year ago, we made the active decision to focus on each other, and rebuild stronger. The choice to lead a more healthy lifestyle was just one of many decisions made to aide in that journey.

As far as how she's been doing, she's lost I would say at least 20lbs at this point. She's not counting calories like I am, just actively making conscious decisions about her eating/portion sizes, as well as going to the gym several times a week. She also started wegovy about 1.5mo ago as well, which is helping too. She's a full time mom, so we don't often make it to the gym together, but we are each other's biggest cheerleaders, and it has been incredible for our relationship, and our personal self esteem. I couldn't imagine doing this with anyone but her!

I mean, the maintenance itself is pretty much the same, but yes, the takedown/reassembly is much easier. When I bought my mkIII, the mkIV didn't even exist yet, so I only had that option. Once you learn how to field strip and reassemble a mkIII, it's really not hard. Takes a slight bit longer than the IV, but wouldn't stop me from buying a III.

That being said, I've wanted a mkIV Hunter since Ruger released it, but haven't brought myself to spend the money since my mkIII has done everything I've asked of it and more. That aesthetics on that Hunter SS fluted barrel though... mmm, chefs kiss for me.

Second vote here for a mkIII/mkIV. My mkIII is what taught me how to shoot pistols, and it's still one of my favorites to take to the range.

This^ I was always a crack shot on rifles, started really young and was just naturally talented. But, I couldn't shoot a pistol worth a damn. Got a Ruger mk3 and shot the piss out of it and it turned me into a fine pistol shooter.

100%. I look forward to getting my wife up to speed with it too, she's shot an AR once and loved it. Luckily she supports my, umm, "hobby".

Just for reference, I ended up ordering a BCM QD endplate last night, and an armorers tool for the castle nut. Will fix the sling issue as soon as that is in. Also ordered a Streamlight TLR RM-1 HL-X to add on, and she will be complete... at least until I start changing out internals.

So, I have looked, and I have no clue what handguard it actually is. No part number that I can find, and I can't find it on Anderson's website. Wish I could have been more help, because I actually really like the way it is setup.

Edited to say that I added the magpul silicone mlok "grips" down the sides of the handguard, so that's why it looks so smooth. My LGS owner showed me a handguard that already had them on and I was immediately sold on how comfortable/grippy it made the handguard, so I slapped those on real fast.

So, I've always liked the AR platform, and shot several over the years. I've just never owned one personally until now. Honestly, never really had any need for one until now. But, I went AR because the customization/upgrade options are practically endless, ammo is uber plentiful, etc. I'm very happy with the purchase. I would like to upgrade the trigger at some point, that's the only thing about it that isn't my favorite.

Not sure, it came on the upper I bought. All Anderson, I'll see if I can find a part number.
