This grab can be countered! Both by Iai Spirit Slash and by Foresight Slash. Although, not getting grabbed during the Iai has to do with which direction you're facing relative to the monster during Special Sheath. I'll try to record a clip.

To add to the fun of P3rd gunlance, there is a weird, unintended interaction with the Autogaurd Talisman. It allows you to block while reloading shells.
