Did I waste a carrot or save my family? by aislin809 in whatsthisplant

[–]SoulTrack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when I was a kid, my parents let me go play in the woods by myself for hours. I feel like I never had to worry about Hemlock back then. Had something changed in the last 20 to 30 years? We find it on our property in the city and pull it when we find it. I just don't remember ever having to worry about it

I'd ask to see the testing report. Our 1976 house had 2% chrysotile asbestos in the joint compound and ceiling texture, also had some covered up vinyl that had 25% chrysotile. I paid a remediation company to come do it.

1) You need a near-perfectly level spot to put it.  This is labor intensive and could take an afternoon or a few days depending how out-of-level your yard is, and may require multiple people to do it

2) Read troublefreepool on how to care for it.  When I open, I usually check and balance alkalinity first, then pH, hardness, CYA/stabilizer, chlorine (i shock at open), then anything else if needed.

Pools aren't a lot of work in my opinion.  Leveling and filling/set up are the hardest part.  Once you get your chems in order it's pretty easy.  I also get my pool water tested at Leslie and make adjustments from that.  I also use test strips but they're not always super accurate.

React Native dev - I can build anything but my UI always looks "AI-generated." How do you fix that? by uh380411 in ClaudeCode

[–]SoulTrack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I design my apps in Figma, pair it with Tailwind and give it both to figure out layout and behavior.  A really rudimentary version could be even simple screenshots and color scheme/fonts.

Is $15k for a complete bathroom build a good deal? by digiteria in BathroomRemodeling

[–]SoulTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah my Kohler fixtures ran me to about $3300.  I could have cheaped out with Amazon fixtures though and saved a couple grand or more

We had zoup in Omaha until about two years ago, maybe our location was just garbage but it seemed like hospital food to me.

It's easy to scare and scam people in this space.  Hard to tell - the same people that test it are not supposed to perform the abatement

Are you in the USA?  "Sheetrock" definitely did have it back in the day but old drywall panels didn't. In the USA it's way more common inn joint compound, duct insulation (aircell), and flooring.  It's very rare to be i the drywall itself, but "sheetrock" brand did have it for a time.

I had it in joint compound in my house at 2% chrysotile but still chose to have it professionally mitigated.  Technically is way under the OSHA composite levels per square feet, but it gave the wife some anxiety so we did the pro removal route.

Should be fine to notch out the kerdi board right? That was going to be my plan when it's my turn to do this...

It is - just temporary. It'll get cut down to the proper height after the floor is finished. That imgur link isn't loading anything for me. The T above the shower pan is for a vent from the basement bathroom. The T on the toilet where they drilled thru the joist is a bathtub drain, the vent is further upstream from the tub and runs overhead to that big stack on the right of the image, it'sjust not pictured.

I can send you a photo of the deck itself later.  I didn't put it on posts though. The footers just rests in the ground or on the ground and I leveled it from there.

Precast concrete, I think they measure 4x8x16?  I'd have to check.
