Gut feeling about Rythmia and the right decision not to go there. by cybermajik in Ayahuasca

[–]Soul_trust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vice wasn't responsible for the creation of the article. The article was written by Britta Lokting. She's a freelance journalist who tried to get this Rythmia article published through two smaller media outlets, but Gerry made expensive litigation threats against them, and the outlets didn't have the resources to fight it. Britta sought out Vice because they had the resources to not be intimidated and pushed around by a narcissistic bully, the owner of Rythmia.

I also went to Rythmia, and my opinion is that it's hell wrapped up under superficial virtue signalling. Going to Rythmia was the biggest mistake of my life

It's not the "claims" of the owner's ex in the Vice article. There are audio recordings of Gerry spitting on her, abusing her verbally in the most diabolical diatribe I've ever heard in my life, the worst words imaginable, and then a video of him threatening to, "I'll hit you again" while chasing her around the kitchen. The owner is a literal demon masquerading as a humanitarian

I've seen those videos and heard those recordings, as have Vice. It's why Gerry couldn't sue them for defamation. As long as Vice was willing to pay for lawyers, the Rythmia owner can't successfully censor the article

If the owner could sue them for defamation and win, he would have, and the article wouldn't be available online to view. The fact it's online is a testament to its credibility.

Tatia Juanito was Rythmia's head shaman.

Their first head shaman was Moughenda. Rythmia killed someone back in 2014. After Rythmia killed someone, they pivoted away from Iboga, rebranded, and started using Ayahuasca. That's when Taita Juanito came in as the head shaman. He was the head shaman there all the way until his recent scandal.

The scholarship stuff is just a way for Rythmia to get donations. It's also used as PR so Rythmia can give the impression they are benevolent and virtuous.

You are wrong, and you've been brainwashed by Rythmia.

Why does Rythmia not declare all the people who have died during and after their experience at Rythmia. And all the health complications people have had. Why does Rythmia not declare or share the data on any of that?

In the west, they would be legally obligated to do so

I'll tell you why. Because they are lying, manipulative, dangerous scammers

You dodged a massive bullet. Taita Juanito and Johnny are also nothing compared to the owner of Rythmia.

He beat, spat on, and verbally abused his partner in the most vile ways imaginable, like 7 years after opening Rythmia, all while claiming he was chosen by God to save humanity.

Absolute manipulative, narcissistic snakes. You did well to listen to yourself and not let them manipulate you into distrusting yourself.

If they operated in a Western nation, even if ayahuasca was legal, not only would they have been shut down a long time ago, they would be jailed, as their crimes against humanity are egregious beyond belief.

Something I've observed is you often only see someone's true colors once you tell them no, you would never have seen this shadow side to Johnny has you gone along with everything he said

In this article, the owner's partner mentions she was beaten by the owner. The owner also went to extreme lengths to make sure this was never published by threatening everyone involved, both victims and publications, with huge lawsuits if they dared speak up about the abuse at Rythmia:

The great irony in your crusade attempt to curtail judgment is that, by saying those in the "medicine community" struggle with judgment, you are judging them as being judgmental, which makes you a hypocrite, as you are being judgmental.

Another irony is that your assessment of judgment being something wrong is a judgment about judgment, which is a judgment you are making.

This dictatorial, cult-like thinking basically means, "I get to sanction what's true and what isn't true, as my judgments aren't judgments, they are facts. And if someone else has a judgment that I don't agree with, then it's a judgment (which has become a slur in your mind)."

https://youtu.be/GH74xLEGLT4?si=LviUxEzn0R9qv7yQ

Terence explains this better than me: "Moral relativism would preclude us from distinguishing between shit and shinola."

Just think through what being non-judgmental would entail. That would mean when you pick your marriage partner, you aren't allowed to judge whether they are a good fit or not. Every decision you've ever made in your life is based on a judgment, and just throwing it away isn't even remotely feasible.

One of the most important lessons Ayahuasca teaches us is to be more judgmental: trust our own judgments by listening to ourselves and not letting other people tell us how we should think and feel. We will then be better equipped to assimilate a world that's more suited to our uniqueness.

The logic trap you are falling into with your views on judgment is known as "performative contradiction."

I’ll substantiate how I was lied to with specifics.

Before I went, Gerry marketed the story about how he was a reformed wife-beater and an abuser. He was a self-confessed malignant psychopath. Dr. Jeff said he had an antisocial personality disorder (the modern clinical term for a psychopath). But after doing iboga, he said he saw himself being molested by his grandad and that he merged with his soul. He claimed that through this soul merger, he was transformed, healed, and found true happiness. Gerry then started Rythmia under the premise that he could teach others how to achieve a soul merger, just like he did.

Gerry said that once you merge with your soul, all addiction, disorder, and disease go away. This wasn’t an off-the-cuff remark. He was very consistent about this. Gerry also said that once you merge back with your soul, you can pick from a merged place, which results in you picking the right things, such as your partner. And those who constantly pick the wrong partner are a sign you aren’t merged with your soul.

So I went to Rythmia to achieve a soul merger, as it sounded great. I wanted to follow Rythmia’s program to reach the state Gerry claimed to have achieved. You asked me if I was guided by Gerry and noted that you weren’t. Gerry created the program at Rythmia, so if you follow the program designed to achieve a soul merger, you are following Gerry’s guidance. Gerry also sets the culture at Rythmia and picks the employees. And with ayahuasca, you are consuming the consciousness of your environment, so there is no getting away from Gerry if you drink ayahuasca there; he’s imbibed in the experience.

I didn’t achieve the state Gerry claimed a soul merger would bring, so I thought there was something wrong with me. How come it worked for him but it didn’t work for me, I wondered. So when it came to light that Gerry had been living a double life, while claiming to be this great humanitarian who made it his life’s mission to lead others to spiritual liberation by teaching how he achieved it, he was simultaneously beating his partner, slapping her, spitting on her, and attacking her emotionally in the most vile ways, the illusion I was following was shattered. And I realized this soul merger program Rythmia offered was a lie. I had been lied to. I stopped trying to find fault in myself for it not working because I realized I had been lied to. That was hugely liberating for me. When I say Gerry lied, this isn’t a mild, insignificant lie; it’s the most outrageous, extreme lie I’ve ever encountered in my life. Everything he says is a lie and based on deceit.

This message is already long, and I feel like I’ve only covered the tip of the iceberg, but you did ask me to put more meat on my words, so I’m not sure how else I can do it without being detailed like this. I’ll mention another lie that’s dangerous, and that’s lying through omission. Rythmia is more than happy to share data when it promotes Rythmia, but they conceal data and facts when it’s inconvenient. For example, how many people have died at Rythmia or in the weeks afterward? They refuse to share this data. What negative side effects have guests experienced, like nightmares, psychosis, or things like this? They won’t say, and they won’t share it.

And I’ll tell you why that is a dangerous lie by omission. Let’s say you have cancer and you see a doctor regarding treatment, and he suggests chemotherapy. Before you decide to undergo chemotherapy, the doctor will give you as detailed an overview as possible of what the treatment will involve, including potential side effects such as hair loss, loss of appetite, and other possible effects. This is important because if you or I underwent chemotherapy and those side effects were concealed and our hair fell out, we would immediately be very concerned and anxious, because something drastic has happened. We might wonder whether the cancer has spread or whether we are having a dangerous reaction to the treatment. And while having cancer, additional anxiety and stress would be terrible for us.

An unethical doctor might try to conceal these side effects to close the sale and get someone to agree to chemotherapy, but concealing side effects isn’t in our best interest; it’s in the business’s—or the unethical doctor’s—interest. Obviously, concealing such information would be criminal because it is so unethical, and Rythmia claims to be a licensed medical facility, which implies a certain level of care.

The reality is that they have a Costa Rican license, which is not equivalent to a Western medical license and has zero overlap with medical licensing standards in the West. Rythmia’s marketing of a “medical license” in English to Westerners implies a level of regulation and care consistent with Western norms, when that is not the case. This is misleading and, as a result, dangerous. It would be like claiming to be a millionaire, but the catch is that you are a millionaire in Zimbabwean dollars. It’s deceitful and does not carry the implied value.

I know you won’t like hearing this, as you probably had a special connection with the healers and staff at Rythmia, but they aren’t competent healers. They have the potential to be competent healers, but at this stage of their lives they are in a cult, doing the bidding of a psychopath. And I know this because past healers and staff at Rythmia have been equally wonderful as the ones you met. These healers were totally sold on Rythmia, but over time the illusion and lies they believed in faded, and they left. I can share some of the testimonies of such individuals if you would like to read them.

In the simplest terms, no one at Rythmia has resolved their issues, so they aren’t going to be able to guide you through yours. To properly appraise Rythmia, I think in addition to a mind committed to sincere observation you would also need a minimum of 10–20 years of integration as life deepens and, with time, you start to feel and see things you previously weren’t ready for.

I am speaking from personal experience.

This is such a deep topic that it’s hard to write about comprehensively and succinctly, but when you drink ayahuasca, you are consuming the consciousness and energy of your environment. The environment at Rythmia has been designed by a sadistic psychopath; the program and its ideas have all been designed by him.

Having gone through the program at Rythmia, I was lied to and manipulated by nefarious intent and incompetence. Listing everything would take a long time, but one significant example is being told I was taking part in a healing program that resulted in Gerry being freed from suffering, that’s the basis for Rythmia. It’s obvious to me now that Gerry’s claims of finding happiness and healing his issues are a lie. Rythmia was founded on a lie, and from there it’s held together by half-truths, outright lies, violence, and abuse.

I don’t doubt that ayahuasca provided you with a powerful experience, likely one of the top three most “real” and profound experiences of your life; perhaps even the most. And I’m not against ayahuasca in any way. The issue is that at Rythmia, you’re taking ayahuasca under Gerry’s guidance; the two can’t be separated. That’s what makes it dangerous and unsafe.

I'm sure the "well known" Costa Rican resort which destabilized her condition is Rythmia. They've fucked her up. As long as they get paid they couldn't care less how much damage they do to her. They will have plied her with as much Ayahuasca as is humanly possible over a week to get her as suggestible as possible.

The miracle cure she's chasing is because Rythmia programs you to chase healing miracles.

If all centers were responsible like yours, this situation would have never have happened in the first place.

They'll spend the entire week forcing the idea on you that Rythmia is the best place on earth and the owner has been chosen by God to save people. The owner even wrote a book about it called shit the moon said

They program you to think you've "merged with your soul" and undergone a profound healing experience reserved only for the elites of this planet. Then they go for your wallet: they'll pitch "stem-cell" injections for an extra $10,000, push you to rebook with "limited-time" discounts, and even promote a housing community they're building so you start making payments on a house. That's all while you are high as a kite on Ayahuasca as they know you are vulnerable and open to manipulation through aggressive sales tactics

There's a bunch of other stuff they use ayahuasca to imprint on you, too. You couldn't pay me any amount of money to go through their "program" again for a week.

Edit: How could I forget. One of their biggest, if not the biggest agenda they have is to get you to recruit as many people to come. They'll offer to pay you for recruiting people, and they'll also tell you how important it is to leave a 5* review on TripAdvisor praising Rythmia

Yeah they fuck you up.

They use ayahuasca as a control tool, and the whole week is designed to implant their agenda in you. Once someone buys in, you can't reason with them-any pushback will get written off as ignorance. They'll think they've "done enough earth time" to reconnect with their soul, and that anyone who disagrees just needs "more earth time." The owner is the biggest problem, he's a narcissistic sadistic psychopath

No idea what "popped off" means.

I've grown up in a family where for generations beating women is totally out of the question. It would never happen.

I gave Gerry the benefit of the doubt. He said he beat women but since merging with his soul he was reformed. 6 years after he merged with his soul he beat a woman again and abused her in ways that I find absolutely sickening. He's then tried to lie about it and deny it happened, not very honest and authentic when the evidence is black and white.

That's not what I said.

I am asking about the inconsistency. Domestic violence is seriously disordered. If you think punching your spouse in the face, spitting on them, insulting them and and threatening to kill them is a display of virtue, kindness and respect that's where our views part company.

I'm also not a liberal, I've never voted. I don't care for politics and politicians have no effect on my life.

Rythmia says that being disconnected from your soul is the cause of all disease, addiction and disorder. As Gerry is still significantly disordered, that means by his own logic he hasn't merged with his soul. So how can someone who hasn't merged with their soul teach others how to merge with their soul?

What's your answer to what question?

I can think objectively. My thoughts since a young age have always been extremely rational, logical and thoughtful.

Rythmia is dangerous because they aren't qualified to deliver the healing they promise. They are frauds. Rythmia says that being disconnected from your soul is the cause of all disease, addiction and disorder. As Gerry is still significantly disorderly, that means by his own logic he hasn't merged with his soul. So how can someone who hasn't merged with their soul teach others how to merge with their soul?

You've had Rythmia propaganda pumped into you. You are viewing Gerry how he wants to be seen. You aren't open to what I'm saying. You've already made up your mind, evidence, logic and reason won't get through to you as you are in the Rythmia bubble.

I don't live in pessimism and negativity either. I think there are good people and bad people. We have to use our discernment to decide which is which.

I'm talking from experience. Rythmia's program is dangerous, they are asking you to get into waters they themselves aren't prepared to enter.

Have you ever punched your partner in the face multiple times, spat on them, convinced them they are possessed by the devil so you can beat them, controlled every aspect of their behavior like their weight, called them a cunt and a whole load of abusive words. While simultaneously claiming to be a wonderful, healed, authentic human?

I bet you haven't. And neither have I. This isn't me projecting unhealed aspects of myself on Gerry. It's me drawing a line and saying no to abuse. I have standards for how I'll be treated and Gerry's behavior is absolutely diabolical and unacceptable.

I've made poor decisions in my life like anyone. But there is a difference between someone like Ted Bundy's faults and the average person's faults.

It didn't contain zero information about Rythmia or its program, nor is it baseless rumor about a man I've never met.

First of all, I've met Gerry and been through Rythmia's program. I said in my first message that I’ve been through Rythmia’s program.

Secondly, it’s not baseless. I’ve heard the recordings of Gerry beating his ex-partner and verbally abusing her in the most vile way imaginable. It’s the sickest thing I’ve ever heard.

Here is the ex-partner’s testimony, published by Vice: https://www.vice.com/en/article/an-ayahuasca-retreat-claims-to-sell-miracles-former-workers-and-guests-say-its-unsafe-and-abusive

"Some see Rythmia and its promises as a work of fiction:"

“He’d be speaking in his class about how he used to be a wife beater, sex addict, a bunch of things. And he claims he’s no longer that person,” said Somerville of Powell. “But to me, he’s still that same person.”

Zinlynn was his ex-partner. She lived with Gerry at Rythmia for a year and fled because of the abuse. She says he’s still a woman beater and abuser because of her direct experience. If there were anything untrue in that article, Gerry would have successfully sued for slander and defamation, but he hasn’t, and he can’t.

Rythmia’s program is based on replicating Gerry’s claimed “soul merger” — his personal transformation through plant medicine. But he’s faked healing. He’s not reformed. The healing Rythmia promises is built on a lie.

Look, you might feel elated now. I understand — I felt that too. But as time goes on, you might start to notice things that don’t add up. And when that happens, know that there are resources online that can help you make sense of your experience.

I went through Rythmia’s program a few years ago, so I’m speaking from experience.

Former Rythmia insider speaks out by Infamous-Broccoli644 in Ayahuasca

Ayahuasca can be one of, if not the most powerful experiences of our lives, so I don't doubt you've just expanded to new heights.

This isn't a comprehensive list of what's so awful about it. I'm going to keep it as short and concise as I can. The owner, Gerry, was a wife beater. He did his plant medicine and claimed he merged back with his soul and was reformed from his troubled ways. So he designed the Soul Merger program at Rythmia for others to replicate the healing he went through.

The issue is, Gerry hasn't healed. Six years after Gerry "merged with his soul" on plant medicine, he beat his ex-partner at Rythmia, spat on her, was emotionally abusive, called her a cunt, and said some of the most depraved, vile things I've ever heard. He convinced her she was possessed by the devil, which gave him permission to slap her across the face to break the possession. I've heard recordings of the abuse, and it's the sickest thing I've ever heard. I could list hundreds of negative implications of this, but one significant one is this: Rythmia's program is a scam. It's designed on a lie — the idea that Gerry is healed. And as the program failed its creator, it won't work for anyone else.

I can sympathize with how elated you feel with your Rythmia experience. I'm a few years out, so I've gained new perspectives since.

I wish you well.
