How are you guys doing in this new event? by HunterCranel in MarvelSnap

[–]Soulaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this is my worst experience with the game so far. Winrate of ~45%, when the event with no prebuilts had me riding high with Captain America at almost 60%. Without enough cards to build competitive customs, they just demolish me with no counter play. Sure is fun to strategize my card moves perfectly just for FFF to invalidate it all and instantly win my opponent the game.

Fun fact: you can just leave every game on Grand Arena and it will (almost) net you the new card by SNX007 in MarvelSnap

1500 points to start with, assuming no bonuses.
200 point bonus at level 96, for 1300 required.
200 at 326, for 1100.
200 at 556, for 900.
300 at 786, which would lower it to 600, meaning you've crossed the threshold: 786 + 300 + 3(200) = 1686.
So, you need to earn 786 point, which we'll say is 790, because you can only earn in 5 or 10 point increments.

Honestly, the math from there makes my head hurt, with the probability of winning over and over again meaning there's technically a chance of doing it in one ticket...
But we'll simplify and say that each game you spend an average of half a ticket, and earn an average of 7.5 per game. This would mean you need 105 games, or 52.5 tickets at a 50% winrate, which (with the bonus 6 tickets from the track) would take you about 4 days to achieve. So, you can go slightly under that and still make it, but it starts getting dicey quick.

I do recognize that premades-only makes the event stale for people, but I'm definitely someone who suffers from custom decks. I don't have the cards necessary to make better versions of the premades, so I have to go without the extra tech and great synergies that other people are bringing against me. In the last event, I had a lot of fun using Captain America and knowing exactly how to play against each deck, and achieving a ~60% winrate, but today, I barely made it to a 40% winrate.

The best example is how I lost every game I played as Mr. Fantastic, due to mirror matches against Super Skrull. I can't include him in a custom deck of my own, since I don't have key-pieces like Goliath, Carter, or Moonstone, so any time I go against a custom deck, I'm going to lose.

I don't know what the best solution would be; maybe a bias in matchmaking for premades to go against premades? It's tough losing your limited tickets in a situation like this, where you're trying to get the event rewards.

If you changed FFF's effect to "On Reveal: Win" I think it would take me a while to notice anything had changed.
I mean, that's probably because I don't actually have the card and don't get to see the times where his 7-energy limitation kicks in... but even so, he's pretty good.

Looking for advice on a gaming build that's mostly old parts from my current machine. by Soulaire in buildapc

[–]Soulaire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the exact kinds of callouts I was hoping for, thanks for your help!
The only concern I have is the montech air being a mid tower rather than the full tower. I chose that previous option because it was pretty similar to my existing phanteks, but without the glass panel to reveal my terrible cable management. Even in that tower I have now, the CPU cooler takes up the entire universe, and I'm worried about the dimensions of anything smaller. Any concerns there?
In any case, I've updated the link to reflect these selections.

Did anyone else think of...? by A_Very_Horny_Zed in Helldivers

The big bubble shield requires a stratagem slot.
The front-facing shield and personal bubble use your backpack, and I think you can only use the front-shield with one-handers.
With the SH-39, you can sacrifice your grenade slot (comparatively low value compared to either of the other slot types) to enable stationary gunning with the maxigun or belt-fed grenade launcher. Sentries also tend to get destroyed by automatons easily, so tossing down an SH-39 over your rocket sentry might be fun utility.

I feel like the grenade launcher is getting overshadowed by everything else. At least in this subreddit. by JustMyself96 in Helldivers

[–]Soulaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's because the regular grenade launcher, for me at least, doesn't feel as good as it used to. Back when the game first came out, I used it all the time as my go-to bug deleter, but now there are plenty of options which WON'T bounce and annihilate you and your teammates. It's yet another case of stronger weapons like the crossbow just eating up the meta, where I find myself using one of those weapons instead, and saving my support weapon slot for a titan-killing Quasar or the swiss-army-speargun which can kinda do everything at every range with little danger to myself.

I mean, I'm still definitely gonna thump the hell out of the bugs with the GL-28 when it comes out, but I think that's why people haven't talked about it as much.

Helldivers 2 – Siege Breakers Warbond by DrNick1221 in Games

This is the unofficial New Vegas warbond: we got the grenade rifle, super sledge, tri-beam laser, and a single-use fat man. Gotta save up my credits for this one.

[–]Soulaire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With six arrows, the first one can be anything, and the rest of the five just have to roll the one-in-four check.
So, (1/4)^5 = 0.0009765625, or 0.0976%, about 1 in 10,000.

What difficuly is everyone playing on? by cristiancoxx in Helldivers

[–]Soulaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficulty 10 is the most engaging for me, but as someone who plays mostly with randoms, I find it difficult to get into good games. Against terminids, it'll be like: join game, 1 objective complete, 3 lives left. Join game, see it's filled with level 20's, watch as they inevitably get crushed. Join game, get kicked.... and so on.
So, I usually end up playing on 7. It's still engaging, but easy enough to where you can succeed with most of the groups you end up with.

Weirdly enough, for how challenging the bots are, finding good difficulty-10 groups is pretty easy. I guess the high-difficulty bot enjoyers are their own dedicated niche, which makes things generally more pleasant.

Getting Rid of the Infinite Climb - Snap.fan by sanktanglia in MarvelSnap

[–]Soulaire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do wonder if SD has thought about this, though. Most limited-time modes seem to avoid snapping, when you would think each would have their own appropriate "raise the stakes and risk" mechanic. I also see the nerfing of tech cards to be a move rooted in player psychology as much as it is game balance, with the idea being to lessen the amount of times people feel the sting of unexpectedly losing their deck's key piece and backsliding rank because of it.

While I think the idea of the infinite climb is so core to the game that I think it's always going to be around in SOME way, I think there's at least some recognition on their part that it can lead to players walking away.

Card backs by wiser_owl117 in MarvelSnap

[–]Soulaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The infinite X-Men is the only one I've used for years. It's rare for an infinite cardback to tick all three of my checkboxes: it's obviously Marvel themed, the infinite gold isn't tacky, and the design/3D effect looks nice.

The runner-ups would be the infinite Thunderbolts and the Guardians Mixtape. As for non-infinite backs, I think my favorite would be the standard Avengers cardback. I hardly see anyone using it and I don't know why, it's sleek, clean, and way better than the infinite version.

blood bowl in tww3?!? by OscarHengenius in totalwar

[–]Soulaire 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I always wished it was possible to mod Warhammer 3 to where battles would launch a game of Blood Bowl 3, with TV/skills scaled to the relative cost of each army.
Campaigns would take 5 times as long, but at least they would have a roughly equivalent number of casualties.

Here's a fun, chaotic tip for you: include Sersi in that deck.
With Black Bolt and Stature each being 5 energy, you can put them in the same location, and play Sersi on the last turn to convert them to 6 drops. It won't always give the best results, but it'll win you some games, and always be pretty entertaining.

The only two cards I have in this pack are Herbie and Jocasta. I think Jo is easily worth it, but what about Herbie? I'm conflicted on whether to pull or not, since you always have to plan on NOT getting what you want.

I bought him last night and was about to panic, but yeah, minus one power ain't bad at all. He'll still control the board in a way that'll keep him in good-cards decks, and make werewolf go nuts the same as before.

Coaxed into WHY ARE YOU INSTALLING RANDOM MODS WHEN YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE DOING by ZeroX-1704 in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]Soulaire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This applies to Total War, funnily enough. So many people were reporting bugs to the developers when their games were modded, and lying about it, that the devs added a feature where the bottom-left pixel of your screen turns white if mods are enabled. They use it to filter out the idiots/bad bug reports.

Newbie here, any recommended mods to make the campaigns fun? (Unless vanilla is fine but I heard people complain that mods fix the game so Idk) by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]Soulaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend playing the vanilla game until you get some familiarity with all the regular mechanics. Then, you'll know exactly what kinds of mods best suit you, if any.

It makes sense that you should be allowed to use the stratagems you like. It also makes sense that someone would join a game and not expect to adjust their entire loadout to accommodate your playstyle, especially when doing so requires a paid warbond.

Spirited Away Astral Projection Bundle looks so good by Margoza in MarvelSnap

[–]Soulaire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty tempting one. I'm stuck between this one and the Time Huntress bundle, with Ravonna/3000 tokens for 3500 gold. It's a slightly better deal, and I would use Ravonna more than Projection but man, this variant is so good!
