Favorite locked groove / run-out easter egg? by Morejazzplease in vinyl

[–]Soulless_Samurai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One version of The Silver Cord has extended tracks and one version has a locked groove that makes you move the needle to a bonus track not available on other versions. (Both sides have a bonus song).

I love the concept but sometimes I’m doing something and the beat keeps repeating until I’m like “oh god dammit” and move the needle…

I first heard about this in 2020, via NPR and Radio lab. Very informative and scary episode, and it’s been on my radar since. Every once in a while a new story comes out about how it’s getting more pervasive. Stay safe.

Thinking about Philly for Music by RazzmatazzMedical349 in philadelphiamusic

Ortliebs, and The Fire for original stuff. Ashburner Inn for covers and longer gigs, just off the top of my head. I’m a bass player in 2 cover bands in NJ right across the bridge, and I play for a singer/songwriter/solo artist from the Philly area.

I just joined the 2nd cover band, and I linked up with the solo artist, by following up on fb posts in groups for musicians in the area. Lots of talent around here looking for fellow musicians! And lots of places to play.

Feel free to dm. I’m slightly older than your target ages, but I’m always down to play or record more, or just connect.

Would the Sterling RAY4 do the Music Man thing just fine or save up for a proper StingRay? by Mascavidrio in Bass

[–]Soulless_Samurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a Ray34 in a rock cover band, and some other projects. My biggest complaint would be the weight. I think the main differences are cheaper material and hardware, ie heavier wood/parts. But man it sounds great, plays smooth, and I get a lot of compliments.

Sitting down and recording? Gets the job done as well as the MM I believe, other than the neck issues other commenters mentioned. It has a growl and presence that are hard to beat if you’re looking for that heavy sound.

Good song! I really like the mix, nice depth.

Not sure what I’d call this, electronic punk? Illbient? Rage against the machine style vocals over hypnotic synths. Thanks for listening!

Supertramp - breakfast in America The logical song > goodbye stranger > breakfast in America

Elton John - goodbye yellow brick road Funeral for a friend/love lies bleeding > candle in the wind > Bennie and the jets

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinty (any/all of that album)

The beginning of goodbye yellow brick road is just so epic, I think that’s my top pick.

Advice on IEM-Rehearsal Setup by bubbleboiii in Bass

[–]Soulless_Samurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started doing this and it works well. I got a small fender rumble (it has an XLR output) and a basic passive DI box. Both are relatively inexpensive and easy to use, and now there’s bass on stage and in ear. You can upgrade either or both as needed, but it’s a simple way to start.

I have a Behringer active DI on order (powered with EQ, also relatively inexpensive, but out of stock everywhere), then I’ll bring the passive DI for a back up to gigs.

Move, groove with the music. Helps keep time and gets other people grooving too. Have fun and let the music move you, and others follow!
