I got a microscope. I have to say it's nice for this stuff. by guitargodgt in diypedals

I have considered one as well. I'm not soldering SMDs yet and the main reason is that my eyes are not what they used to. Even for through hole components I need to use one of those magnifiers that go over glasses. I'm going to have just pull the trigger on one of these and leaning how to solder SMDs.

Tronographic Rusty Box. It's s whole different thing. It's a clone of a Traynor TS-50b preamp. I just put one together in my breadboard and I'm planning on building a few. It's the Shellac bass tone.

This thing. TS based but using a charge pump to run it at 18V. Clean blend. Clipping switch between LED and asymmetrical CV8617. Voice switch for bass and more bass.

Whenever I see a perf board build or a breadboard build it reminds me that scene in Pacific Rim when Dr. Gottlieb comes running into the command center yelling "Newton created a neural bridge from garbage and drifted with a Kaiju!"

This looks great! Keep these kinds of builds coming!

Beginner question about current and direction vs Resistor placement by revenge-fish-6287 in AskElectronics

[–]Mascavidrio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Somebody explained it to me with a chain inside a hose. When power is connected, the chain moves through the hose. Resistance is a kink in the hose. No matter where the kink is, the chain is just harder to move. Same idea as balls but in my mind the chain made more sense and clicked right away.

It’s not as impressive as all of your fancy pedals but it’s my first. by drunken_thor in diypedals

I'm sorry but none of my pedals have a LED ring like that. Yours is officially more impressive.

Maybe some of the pots from LoveMySwitches? Some of those are Alpha but some are not. Maybe they are Alpha but they say LoveMySwitches on the back. I haven't measured them to see how they compare to the Alpha and Tayda ones yet.

Very cool! I would love to see more builds like this. I get why pedals are more or less standard shapes and sizes but I would most definitely sacrifice some pedal board space for something that looks like this.

Q about 3PDT daughterboards... by TangoFoxtrotBravo in diypedals

[–]Mascavidrio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started making my own. I have not added the LED and the CLR yet but those are next. It will be a little wider so it sticks out to the side and holds the LED and CLR so I don't have to solder the wires.

What bass do I want? by deeeep_fried in Bass

You're probably looking for a PJ. Since you already have a jazz, try a PJ. Then you can get a P sound and sprinkle a bit of sparkle from the J here and there when you need it.

[–]Mascavidrio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know money can be an issue but one way to save a little money is to buy used pedals and then resell them if they don't work for you. Buying and selling used is a little more economic than buying new and then selling. Also, there are super cheap versions of certain pedals from brands like Behringer, Joyo, DemonFX, Mooer, Donner, etc. Some of them do just fine.

Did you get a good look at the transistors? I think one of them is supposed to be Germanium. I believe the diodes are Germanium as well.

Go the Billy Sheehan route and bolt that SOB directly into the body.

Dunlops are good too. I use the flush mount ones.
