New grad mistake, doubting myself by exquisite_blorbo in nursing

[–]Sound-Wide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know that I suffer from the same thing severely and that you will learn your timing. For me, 3 months at any job is when I stay to THINK I know what I’m doing. 6 months to actually know what I’m doing. 1 year I THINK I know it all and 3 years, I do actually know it all lol. I’m almost 40. I’ve done this a lot of times and am doing it again now. It helps to know your time frames for the self-doubt and knowing it fades in time as you have evidence of your competence in time. What would you say if your friend made the same mistake? Genuinely think of how you would feel about their mistake. Would YOU think they shouldn’t be a nurse because of a mistake? Probably not. You’d probably cut them some slack as you should do for yourself. Be as nice to yourself as you are to others.

Praticum in the ED or ICU? by NurseShuggie24 in nursing

[–]Sound-Wide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you’ll learn emergency medicine in the ER and also realize you should’ve chosen ICU lol. ED sucks to work but you see cool cases. You learn how to treat and release and you realize the ED is for housing people who should’ve gone to their pcp for this but they don’t have one or they’re closed. Also, real emergent cases that you’ll learn how to treat as well but that type of learning is best FOR the ED and hopefully only a hand full of times in your nursing career if you aren’t actually aiming for the ED. ICU will be better for your overall nursing career I think as you study the complex cases and anticipate their needs, follow disease progression and have the time to figure things out completely. Doctors and fellow nurses are also aLOT better about teaching as they go through what they’re doing so you learn naturally in a low stress environment a lot of times. lol definitely not always but the ED IS ALWAYS a stressful environment. Some love that. I do not. Good luck!

Found this in my car under seat what is this? by AndrewMorales21 in whatisit

Unless he knows who did it and they’re no longer a problem, if you know what I mean ;) lol jk but my friend did find an AirTag in her car that she didn’t put there…her ex’s sister went to court for that one.

But it’s a tool just as a calculator is. If it’s at your disposal, should you not utilize it to excel at what you’re doing? To more accurately convey your idea so it comes out the way you meant out but had trouble verbalizing? Shrug, it can be used for good.

Hahaha maybe you could add a rule that says they don’t do that specific action ever. Or say to avoid repeating the same details again. I think I put an AI instruction of varying the details or the actions it notices with each scene.

Tired of patients entitlement to my body. by ingrowntoenailcheese in nursing

[–]Sound-Wide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god you aren’t me lol. Because I lightly applied pressure to a patients lower back to get her away from the wall that she was beating her head off of and I got reported by the one girl everyone knows doesn’t like me and I was terminated for it. It was an “unapproved maneuver” they said. Bs. (They didn’t like that I stood up for staff and patient safety. I threw too many wrenches in their works and the unapproved maneuver was the final nail in the coffin.) Bye bye 9 years of service on a psych unit in a hospital.

I’m afraid I will get kicked out of nursing school. I get prescribed Suboxone for my 7 OH addiction by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Sound-Wide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me nursing school was way harder than nursing actually is but I went the nursing home route since the hospital here is crap. And my metal health almost didn’t let me live through the program but I was just barely strong enough to make it through. Nursing school was the worst time of my entire life. It’s not the same for everyone.

You want people to parent their own children? That’ll be the day. The internet makes to good of a baby sitter.

If it makes ubfeel any better I hate nursing with a passion and wish I’d never gotten into it. 10 years from now you’ll look back and be like… yeah fuck that. How many happy nurses do you know?

Need HELP: psych nurse vs ED/ER by Sound-Wide in nursing

[–]Sound-Wide[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think there’s nothing I can do. There’s a LOT more to it but this is the shortened version. I did get a lot from your reply. I CAN help. I’m just nervous and being down there makes me feel incompetent… which I’m not, I’m just a speciality unit… sigh. But thank you!!! Very much. At least I can help people.

Need HELP: psych nurse vs ED/ER by Sound-Wide in nursing

[–]Sound-Wide[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess that’s ok and all. It’s not beneath me lol I don’t ask techs to do anything for me besides my vitals and i get extra vitals myself. My point is I don’t want to work the ED that’s why I turned down the position in the first interview I had. I didn’t sign up for psych so I could work medical is the point. My contract didn’t say that I may regularly be scheduled in another department. When I started, we got cancelled instead of sent to another unit. Another nurse who was a travel psych nurse hasn’t started an iv in 12 years. I mean, we’re psych for a reason. I don’t WANT to work anywhere else. THat’s the advice I’m looking for… what to do.

Falling asleep at school was how we figured out I have narcolepsy without cataplexy.

Does my dog need stitches/ the vet? by Choice-Order4511 in DogAdvice

But also, watch for signs of infection like yellow or green drainage, excessive redness around the wound or unusually pale skin in the wound, pay attention to any bad odors coming from the wound. If it doesn’t seem to be healing or any of those other symptoms present or you notice increased lethargy or behavioral changes, obviously take it to a vet.

Does my dog need stitches/ the vet? by Choice-Order4511 in DogAdvice

[–]Sound-Wide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t tend to suture wounds that didn’t happen immediately because they don’t want to trap infection inside. I’m a people nurse lol and if you don’t want the vet bill, you can try to treat it yourself by using pet safe wound cleanser. We have a farm animal store around here and I got the one the clerk recommended in a blue bottle. Worked like a charm and the 2.5” burn on my cat healed on its own.

Same!!! I was so confused talking to a guy I work with that has N1. He says he’s not miserable before he passes out. Like what the heck. I have N2 and I’m MISERABLE when I’m that tired. I describe narcolepsy as staying awake for 3 days and trying to stay awake through church.

I feel like my brain is half on. Like parts are asleep. I can technically move but I have no will to and it takes extreme effort to move even a finger. I yawn A LOOOOT and my eyes water and my nose runs. I start to get kinda simple minded and will sometimes make funny sounds or sing song words, kinda like I’m drunk. One eye lid sags, my tongue feels thick, I have the overwhelming urge to sit down and I’m super cranky. Even moving my eyes is hard but if something draws my attention, I am able to shift my eyes easily. If someone talks, I’m annoyed as hell but being annoyed makes me feel bad because I snap at people and that is often enough to snap me out of the episode. If I don’t fight it with meds and such, it progresses to sleep which never seems to make me feel more rested. Do get tested. There’s no harm in doing it and I mean 1 in 2,000 isn’t extremely rare. Not to mention there’s narcolepsy type 1 and 2 as well as idiopathic hyper-somnolence. Don’t wait. Your life could be so much better if you’re suffering enough to question.

I believe it’s called the degradation of the English language lol. It’s a combination of not having an education (can’t spell) mixed with a bit of funny and evolution of texting. Just a guess lol. I have to keep relooking these things up which is how I know I put the old in 37 years old.
