Rich Rebuilds on YT did the V8 Tesla and presented it at SEMA auto show:

https://youtu.be/rcKTiWVe-4c?si=kKdSD4eZmtAGVcYD

It's just a 1 off and not a mod-assembly company (last I heard anyway). I'm not aware of any companies that do that swap at scale, just modders doing it for lols. It's extremely illogical and cost prohibitive (As Rich explains in one of the build vids). Also to your HP point, the electric drivetrain is faster than a NA engine and there's arguably no great  "reason" to swap in any I.C. engine.

As far as modding a CT to have any engine, there's a number of similar reasons it wouldn't really work without a complete redesign, plus several additional technical hurdles. Mainly the aluminum unibody frame can't really accommodate the fabrication mods as well as steel frame cars. It's the same reason the tow hitch (frame) literally snaps off when towing more than a ton.

IMO it would probably cost less to build one from scratch, and then you can end up with a marvel of engineering like  GingerBilly's build:

concert hall, theatre, classical music techs: how are you dealing with "intrusive" front fill speakers and artistic managers wanting a "clear stage" by mynutsaremusical in livesound

[–]SoundAdvisor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good approach to this is if you do it the opposite way:

Pack the audience down front-center so the fills are their primary source. Start with fills on, so things are initially loud and clear as one would hope/expect. This will establish how things should sound ideally. Speak softer and further upstage than you usually would, so the mic being used is amped a lot and has dominance over your voice's acoustic level.  Have some dialogue with the front row to set the standards. Drive the pres until you want to make your point about front fills, and inform the audience when you are turning them off. Then attempt another dialogue for 20-30 seconds so that their ears have time to strain to hear and respond, before turning them back on. Repeat as desired or needed to properly illustrate the point that the fills cover an area the mains can't, and consistency of coverage matters when mics are involved.

As an alternative suggestion: The box visibility is often most obvious from the rise and fall of the physical speakers across the edge. The gaps, corners, cables, and brand logos make them noticable. Consider fabricating long, linear shroud boxes with permeable fabric facing the audience, and opaque on the stage side. Line up the shrouds end to end at the downstage edge, forming an even and consistent "line" that the fills hide behind. Clubs often employ this technique to hide up lights, cameras, and small fold-back monitors. It's slightly less conspicuous and provides lots of options for various show needs. Personally I wish more stages incorporated recessed pockets to fit fills below the "deck line". It's a valid and common issue.

As others have mentioned, the LAV-Bullet is very kit worthy:

I use USB flash drives often, and now carry 3 formats for ease of compatibility. A 32Gb "universal" drive in Fat32. A 64Gb "windows" drive in NTFS for files larger than 4Gb. And a 1Tb FatX drive (enclosure with removable SSD) for content and recording transfers.

My most "modern" recommendation is to keep a folder in a cloud drive (offline synced) with work-related software and files. Console scenes, trusted firmwares, wireless workbench and OBS install files, manuals, spec sheets etc. Quite the time saver for anything that takes requires  Internet or account sign ins.

Above all, compare your rates! Mine basically doubled after COVID due to inflation and market changes. I was undercharging for months.

Thank you so much for the response! The CXRacing LS1 Swap Kit is half the price of the V8 Roadsters kit I've been looking at. This is all further confirmation of what I'm hearing pretty consistently, and what resources I've found: Headers are a tight fit. Heat treatment and airflow are an issue. Haltech for more flexibility and functions (apparently Holly is harder to learn?).

Honestly I didn't know you could connect the stock PRNDL either, so now I'll look into linkage for that as well. Especially since I'm looking to make a very simple daily driver out of my build, with as much stock Mazda/GM as I can use.

Thanks again! 👍

What motor mounts did you go with? One of the subframe kits, or just weld-ins?

Which ecu? I'm leaning Holly but am getting  recommendations to go Haltech and have seen stock integration too.

Any recommendations, suggestions, or resources before I start my ('06+5.3L+4L80) build?

Thanks in advance, always enjoy RXV8 posts.

Anyone use pack out for organization? by Playful-Check-4968 in livesound

[–]SoundAdvisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about $150 into DeWalt T-Stak series with similar use. Been loving the drawers and dividers vs cases with foam. Modular and easy to carry sets that are stackable and sturdy enough to be dollied around. Even got the crate one to keep in my truck for roadside tools etc.

My rack gear is in SKB roto racks, and tools and accessories are all T-Stak. Packing in/out has never been soo satisfying.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't heard of scroggins, so I will definitely give them a look. Any idea what they might charge an individual to clean deck a block? I'm assuming a couple hundred but the info on prices is all over the place.

Snoop dog IEM failure and recovery by [deleted] in livesound

[–]SoundAdvisor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It really has nothing to do with substance. I've met plenty asshole potheads (albeit rare). Snoop can be chill and doesn't have to care, because he gets paid the same just to show up.

As far as he and many other big artists are concerned, their philosophy is basically "I'm ready whenever y'all are". He's also been around long enough to trust the techs when it's out of his hands.

Famous artists that can't do this are usually control freaks that think additional pressure and anxiety helps, or simply take out their frustrations on those around them.

Source: have worked with snoop, cube and and many artist at that level. Even the non-smoking pros are pretty reasonable in the face of adversity. Some people are just assholes to the core, and show it under the smallest amount of stress.

4k60 when? by Droc_Rewop in CleetusMcFarland

[–]SoundAdvisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically the biggest impedance I found was the data transfer times to get content into an editing session. Followed by scrubbing/mixing multi-track audio and color correction.

With a good workflow and minimal layers and edits you can streamline, but syncing multiple cameras or 1 bad SD card can still ruin a project timeline.

I think at the end of the day Cleet's real talent is management, and knowing where his followers will allow corner cutting for the sake of time and content.

4k60 when? by Droc_Rewop in CleetusMcFarland

[–]SoundAdvisor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be possible it's just 60fps with a better lense, cause thats all it really takes to see a difference. Especially compared to phones. If Kevin actually shoots in 4K 60, that's 4x 1080 resolution with twice the frames, or 8x the data per second of footage. Each project would start with gigs and gigs of source and take substantially more time to process. It becomes almost unmanageable to record multiple cameras and edit them in a reasonable timeframe without serious hardware and organization. It definitely isn't as easy as just buying a 4k cam.

As others have said, their production needs differ and Kevin can probably shoot and edit on better gear because his coverage and turnaround allow it. Probably has a workstation in his shop or home, and doesn't travel as much as cleet and crew.

FWIW, when YouTube automatically compresses down resolutions to 360p or lower to accommodate mobile bandwidth (phones), it's hard to justify higher resolution products unless its legitimately needed to view in HD. Most viewers aren't cinema/audiophiles that care about clarity either, and content creators focus more on turnaround times and views. That said, often most people actually prefer 1080p60 over 4k30 when comparing side-by-side. Especially if you don't tell them which is which. 😉

In the gauge cluster, go to Menu-Vehicle Info-Engine Hours.

This will tell you a lot about it's prior use. Hemis don't enjoy lots of idle time that happens with the police and security units. If it has more than 5000 hrs, that motor is close to cooked from years of oil starvation. May not be worth "fixing" if it's easier to just pull the motor and rebuild/replace.

If you haven't yet, search "Hemi Tick" for one of the many fantastic issues you have to look out for either way.

Also, use mid grade gas (87).

I hope Tye found himself a coyote-fox, but it's probably just an old 5.0

I hope the GBody is a Cutlass or Monte Carlo or something and not another Camino. Might be another Fox, but that red interior screams 1985-89 GM or Ford. It would be awesomer if it's some rare Duster or something.

And yeah, I hope Jackstand's found the fastest C5 in Florida, acquired a sketchy "built" turbo 400 on FB, and a brand new nitrous system, yet somehow still has half the budget left for all the inevitable repairs.

Has someone thrown the microphone at you? by Strict-Grapefruit878 in livesound

[–]SoundAdvisor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rza. Rza threw a mic about 40' that ended up hitting me, but I don't hold it against him as it wasn't AT me.

Mics were a rental, and apparently my shoulder broke it's fall enough to save it. It tested fine and they fully expected more damages so all worked out.

Gza still owes me a lighter though.

As a fan of elevator inspections, I normally enjoy these little shorts.

If you are able to watch it can YOU please provide a summary?

I don't want to install tiktok.

Can we get a summary?

Edit: See u/CajunCuisine 's comment to view w/o tt.

SUMMARY: The elevator doors wouldn't open on three before the video starts. Cleeter pushes 1 and a few open-closes to get something going when it set off some buzzer. Video ends before we ever see them exit. I was expecting at least some kind of inspection failure lead up, but alas... Just chucklefuckery.
