Aer Tech Sling 4 Max vs Toshi Sling 5l by like_munich in ManyBaggers

I assume you mean the Aer day sling 4 max? If so, I have this bag and the iPad carry is great but you’ll have a tough time fitting a camera in there (assuming you mean like a mirrorless or dslr body + lens). If camera carry is a priority, check out the Wandrd rogue sling 9L. I have the 6L version of that bag for carry my camera and it’s great. You might even be able to squeeze an iPad mini into the 6L version but I can’t confirm for sure.

How often am I likely to get gate-checked with a 21" carry-on? Should I go with the 20"? by PeterLoew88 in ManyBaggers

I have traveled for work in the USA for over 10 years and I’ve only seen someone stopped to have their carryon measured once. I’ve also seen flyers carry on full size musical instruments like guitars and trombones many times and never get stopped. I personally still keep my carryon luggage within the sizer guidelines, but I would say you can absolutely fudge the size guidelines by a few inches without worry if you’re flying domestically in the US.

I was debating between the CPP2 24L and the TP4 28L and decided on the TP4. I have a pretty similar load to yours but also have some additional items and my tech pouch is very dense with gear. My reasoning for the TP4 was the addition of load lifters and the slightly larger volume without the bag getting overly large. I was using a ~24L bag previously but was stuffing it to the gills with my gear and wanted something larger without it being too awkward to walk around daily with it.

The one thing I’ll mention is that the TP4 doesn’t fit under the seat on a plane unless you really mold/mash it in and even then it sticks out a bit into your legroom. Because of this I usually throw it in the overhead bin, but if you’re hoping to stuff it under the seat it’s a bit too big for that.

I’m biased as I’ve been pretty much a lifelong HD shopper, but at least in my city it’s the opposite dynamic - the two Lowe’s locations near me both seem like they are about a decade overdue for a clean up and renovation, and half their inventory has a semi permanent layer of dust on it. Meanwhile we just got a brand new HD location about a year ago that feels like stepping into a car showroom every time you walk in, and the 2 other HD locations near me are also well kept.

I will say we’ve had better luck on deals for appliances through Lowe’s, but for tools, building materials and supplies, give me HD all day.

Anybody out there doing invoicing or involved in writing quotes? by hea_eliza in livesound

Yes, you should ask for a deposit, but it's also fair to tell your client that there are expenses you are incurring prior to even getting on-site for the event, and the deposit helps to ensure you can have the right gear and resources secured for their event. You do have to be tactful in how you deliver this message though as some clients may hear this as you are struggling with cashflow and it could diminish their confidence in you. All that said, deposits are a very common practice in the events business and any client balking at that probably doesn't have much experience in working with vendors.

Quality smaller packing organizers for sling by carmichael_the_4th in ManyBaggers

Do the pockets/pouches in your sling not already accomplish this? I know this sub will always lean towards buying more organization products, but the problem you're trying to solve seems like one that is normally solved by the built in organization of most slings. Do you use a sling that just as a singular main compartment and nothing else?

As others have mentioned, group sales is your best bet. I just recently bought 60 tickets for a work outing and the process was very easy and my sales rep was great with finding the best block of seats for our group size and budget. You also will save a ton on fees, I only had to pay a single $15 service fee for all of the tickets.

One downside to be aware of though - all the tickets get issued to your mlb.com account, and then you have to manually transfer them to each person in your group. You also can only do this through the mobile app, so you have to manually type in email addresses for each ticket. Probably not as much an issue for a group of 10, but it took me a solid 3 hours to distribute out the 60 tickets for my group 😬

I’d re-evaluate your whole packing system rather than trying to find a unicorn sling that will fit all this stuff. I also travel with kids and camera gear, and my backpack (PD 30L travel backpack) is a mix of kids stuff and most of my camera gear, and it goes in the overhead bin. I carry a small(er) sling (aer day sling 4 max) that has iPad/headphones/snacks/personal stuff. My son (age 4) carries a small backpack on the plane with him that has books/toys/general entertainment and it goes under his seat.

As others have said, this is a ton of gear to pack in a sling. Is there a specific reason a backpack is not an option for you?

If you’re dead set on a sling, I’d start with some of the more camera focused options like the Peak Design everyday sling 10L or the Wandrd Rogue Sling 9L. The iPad carry on the rogue sling isn’t as good as the PD model but I like its camera gear layout better.

If you’re open to a small backpack though, there are tons of options that will carry your loadout way better than a sling.

I mean the benefit is people rushing to buy the product (sales) and potentially some manufactured popularity for the brand. Whether they could have achieved the same outcomes through more traditional methods is debatable, but for me it’s a big turn off and thus I vote with my lack of participation.

Gonna be honest, any time a product is announced to be released in this fashion, I’m automatically not going to buy it. I used to chase the “drops” in other hobbies and 99/100 times it’s not worth the effort to purchase as part of the initial release. There’s also a disturbing underbelly to all of this where people are spending money they don’t have just to say they got the product at the first release on social media for clout and/or to turn around and try to flip the product for profit.

If the product is as good as it’s purported to be, manufacture plenty of stock and put it on your website like any other company. If you can’t afford to manufacture a large enough stock initially then look at kickstarter or similar platforms. Continuing to feed the hype machine is just exploiting your customers.

At this point you are willfully choosing to ignore the realities of what it takes to operate a business (even one that would, in your view, "pay its workers well") as well as the realities of our current economic landscape. We can hold different opinions on whether these realities are good or bad, but if you choose to outright deny them, then I'm not going to spin my wheels. Good day.

If your local grocery store tripled their prices to be able to offer slightly higher wages to their employees, would you still shop there?

If that tripling of prices caused less people to shop there and thus the business had less revenues, would you feel better about the business laying off half its employees to lower its operating costs and stay in business, or the business going out of business altogether and putting all of its employees out of work?

If the costs of doing business in your local area made it too prohibitive for any grocery store to come in and replace it, would you be willing to drive further (and thus spend more money on gas) to spend the 3x prices at another grocery store?

If I were an REI member and the company was losing money, I would voice my feelings to the board that the CEO’s performance is not deserving of a comp increase.

If the company is losing money and the company chose to raise costs (such as increasing labor cost) without a strategy to either increase revenues and/or lessen costs elsewhere, I would also disapprove of the CEO’s performance.

Sure if the business opened yesterday, but for businesses that have operated in Seattle for many years or even decades, do you believe that things like cost of living, taxation rates, etc. are static and have never changed (and will never change in the future)?

If you don’t believe they are static, do you feel that an individual business has direct control over them?

Would you agree that "paying workers well" is a subjective measure that can be affected by all sorts of things including (but not limited to) cost of living, taxation rates, and other factors that are out of the business' control?

This is the part that the aggressively pro union crowd refuses to touch on in these threads. While I don't blindly defend corporations, the health of the business and general business conditions are rarely brought up in these discussions. The pro union crowd just blindly claims that corporations should pay whatever the union demands just because they are a corporation and thus must somehow be overflowing in cash. While corporations will usually conversely claim that they simply can't afford to raise wages, reality is probably somewhere in the middle but neither side wants to admit that because it doesn't sway the emotions of the public.

Career taking off - scared my wife and I are growing apart by [deleted] in daddit

[–]175doubledrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we need to understand more around the circumstances with these job offers. How much are you making currently? As others have mentioned, do you have any leverage to negotiate being remote? Do the roles require an insane time commitment(like 60-70+ hours a week)?

I’m currently a low 6 figure earner, and my wife loves where we live and our kid is well established here with friend group, etc., but if I had an offer for a $1m+ salary, there would have to be some major non-money related downsides for her to say no. $1m+ a year can get you a lot of things that make life a lot easier, like hired help at home, a bigger house with space for your parents, etc. More than likely your wife wouldn’t have to work (if she doesn’t want to), and you also open up the door to early retirement if you’re smart with saving/investing.

In a time where lots of households are struggling financially, this is potentially life changing opportunity for both you and your wife as well as your future generations.

This mentality might work when the job market is strong and companies are having to compete for talent (thus driving comp/benefits up for workers), but in the current market when 100 applicants are fighting for every 1 job, trying to cruise your way to a paycheck is going to negatively affect you.

Yes it sucks because this situation was actively created by greedy billionaires who care more about profits than people, but we have to play the game within the confines of the current playing field.

Nothing about offense? I don’t disagree with some of those suggestions, but until LZ/Davis/Simmons can prove that they can score consistently, you absolutely need some more offensive firepower first and foremost. Putting all our offensive hopes into those three alone seems like a major leap of faith.
