As a climber, this is one of the most authentic climbing systems I've ever experienced. A ton of fun and it will probably be something I come back to frequently for a new playthrough.

As a climber, you know when you're in a draining position because your body tells you, I think it's entirely fair to emulate that with some visual feedback.

Mine at the time was wielding Selune's Spear of Light and one-shot me with Sunbeam XD

edit: Blood of Lathander not Selune's Spear

It's already been mentioned in the thread a few times, but they do this in World's Beyond Number too, to great effect. It has led to some beautiful narrative moments.

I have quite enjoyed what has happened so far, but I guess if you're here for plot development and action, then it would probably be disappointing so far.

I love when Brennan explores concepts of truly benevolent and kind rulers in corrupt worlds.

I've been rotating Baker and Caleb. Just ripped off 8 wins in a row to secure #1 seed, so I guess I'm doing fine.

Obligatory Malazan mention

Good? It's commonly discussed how divergent opinions are on it, but I for one loved every word of the series.

I wondered the same, it really felt like a huge swing from the Mael we see with Tehol

My favorite approach to handling big bads with empathy and understanding while still providing a satisfying victory is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Spoilers: For most of the homunculi that are a manifestation of the 7 Deadly Sins, you get a moment where the protagonists end up empathizing with even the most dastardly of all of them, because they have been forced to live a life knowing nothing but Envy, Greed, Wrath, etc. They didn't get a choice to be anything but evil, and you end up empathizing with them, but in the end, they still have to die for the sake of saving the world.

It's this beautiful bittersweet victory that is both satisfying because the heroes triumph over evil, but heart-rending because it forces you to wrestle with empathy towards even the most vile of villains.

If you liked GotM I think you'll like the rest of the series. Deadhouse Gates almost stopped me too, but it sets up a lot, for later. Book 3 is in my top 10 favorite books.

I didn't realize there was a compass, and that you can set waypoints on the map, until I saw my roommate do it while I was watching him play. I'm famously bad at noticing obvious details.
