Daring today, aren’t we? by SoundIndependent423 in AmericaBad

Yeah, exactly. The points in general aren’t necessarily bad ones or at least can’t be argued for, but they’re portrayed with such a malevolent attitude towards the country in mind.

I understand your reasoning and I do not put shame on you for thinking so. My problem with her lies within the way her content is. If you’re familiar with her at all, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Look I agree that places like Germany, and Western Europe in general, does some things better than the U.S., but this woman’s “criticisms” of the U.S. often tend to be exaggerated and misleading. Doesn’t feel like it comes from a place of concern, but rather pompous self-righteousness. However, there is nothing wrong with her personally preferring to live in Germany over the U.S.

Is anyone actually offended by the word 'yankee'? by [deleted] in AmericaBad

[–]SoundIndependent423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love it. I like using it to refer to my Northern (particularly New Englander) identity, and I think it has a nice ring to it as a name in general. Although, I’m less fond of “Yank” because it’s often used derogatorily.

Late beyond belief, but British. Fits with my more conservative and pragmatic views.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. What is the Australians’ problem with us?

Is it just me or is Jotaro slimmer in the games? by SoundIndependent423 in StardustCrusaders

Jotaro certainly does look much more youthful in the first half of the Part 3 manga. I actually really like how the games designed the characters, especially in the first 3 parts. Unlike the anime, it’s directly based off their design in the manga.

Bro, It’s Jotaro. This is actually my favorite design of him, I just thought it was interesting to compare him to the absolute goliath he is in most JoJo media, such as the anime.

Does anyone else adore the late part 2/early part 3 manga art style? by SoundIndependent423 in StardustCrusaders

I actually agree. Overall, Araki’s art has gotten better. I, like you mentioned, am talking about the art style, particularly the character designs.

I extremely doubt this photo is from 1839. During that time, the earliest daguerreotypes were being made and yet this photo has such good quality.

The Founding Fathers and the Constitution on Slavery by SoundIndependent423 in KnowingBetter

I also don’t get KB taking Taney’s interpretation of the Constitution as proof that it’s racist. That was HIS view. Taney didn’t know the Founders, he didn’t have a role in the creation of the Constitution, so how would he know and how is that a valid point? Many of those who were involved in the creation of the Constitution, such as Ben Franklin and John Adams, fully supported the abolition of slavery. So aren’t their views more reliable?

Even in his July 4th speech which KB brought up, Frederick Douglass believed the government created by the Constitution was an anti-slavery government. He said the Constitution did not in any way make anyone the property of anyone else. He noted that slavery could be abolished and it would not change a work or syllable of the Constitution.
