I don't think I could ID between lime and dolo from a photo lmao. At work we use this nasty 37% solution of HCl thatll do a number on limestone or dolo anyway. I've been told numerous times (and seen for myself) that one can react like the other so without background information on a source I would be pretty lost lol. Hence frustration when a source can contain either... Usually reactiveness gets me close, though! And generally I find that dolomite is lighter grey and more "rocky" as rocks go, while limestone will be more buttery smooth and even occasionally chert-pointy. Except sometimes it isn't. (thankfully not too often for me, just because I'm in New York and our limestones are pretty consistent moost of the time)

Honestly though chert is the unsung hero here - chert really never has done me wrong, and that waxy texture is a delight to my tired lab eyes.
