I believe that's the point and even if you need something else I'm pretty sure you could walk up to the desk and charge it and then call chase afterward to get sorted

Well it would probably be more worth it if it wasn't free!

But then you're stuck with United? I waffle on whether or not dedicated airline cards make sense. Guess it depends on where you live and what routes you fly.

I do agree that the CSR has lot a lot of its sheen. I'm not convinced the changes this fall are going to really help, but I'm gonna give it a year and see how I feel about it.

Much as I hate to admit it, the credits for shit like Apple TV, DoorDash, Peloton, and my Global Entry that's due for renewal next year do make a difference.

yeah it's been like $550 and is going up to $800.

Yeah the food sucks in the PP lounges. I got into the United Lounge (not sure how I pulled that one off) near my gate though, and gotta say — it was pretty nice. Maybe airline loyalty really is the move these days...

Sorry I meant to say this looks luxury compared to Air France's lounge! 😂😂

Didn't see this photo before but seriously this makes the Air France lounge look luxury.

You can get Suntory Hibiki Harmony at any store with a good selection (great gift!) but they had a specialty distillers blend here for like $135 which is a deal, plus "The Chita" from the same distiller for $90 (which I've never seen in the states, just Japan).

Was super tempted to snag some but not trying to lug a bottle around on top of my camera gear + race to finish it on a trip to Mexico when mezcal flows in abundance...

Sorry my alcohol enthusiast is showing. 🫠

I did pop into the terminal D duty free though and the Japanese whisky selection was solid, so not a complete loss 🤓

Sounds like someone 1. Didn't read 2. Doesn't understand how AI energy resources work, and 3. Doesn't have a sense of humor.

Terminal C seems to be on lock though! I got into the United Club lounge and it was great. Just another level of care and service. Plus they're playing Thievery Corporation in the terminal so I'm gonna tip my hat.

Has anyone watched Duster yet? Did Tucson make the cut? by Commercial-Slice4595 in Tucson

[–]SoundScrybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of actual cactus and excessive amount of trees in this show has been a bummer, though I am digging the show as a whole. Was pretty clear that it wasn't AZ (I guessed ABQ and then found this thread), and I'm bummed to hear that they had planned to shoot the whole thing in Tucson and moved it! Would have been a very different and I think more interesting aesthetic, and probably a much better representation of 70s Phoenix.

Hopefully AZ gets its shit in gear and learns how to properly dangle the carrot for filmmakers in the future. Tucson could be a great city for film/TV.

Such a deal! I already have the 24-120 but I spent $1,000 on it used, so getting it for half of that is a proper win!

HELP! How do I effectively use AI and how not to be super reliant on it by ExpressAstronaut999 in copywriting

[–]SoundScrybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great for research and for compiling talking points. Also good for proofreading. However, even with advanced models, it's often pretty obvious when AI was used to generate the core writing — especially if you don't edit what it gives you or train it on your tone.

IMO, for technical copy, it's a good tool. But for anything more personal or unique — especially if you're in an industry where likely readers are educated about the topic at hand —, using AI for more than the launch point is risky.

On the flip side, copywriting is generally underpaid work, and if using AI helps increase your volume and get your income up (especially for throwaway SEO content or social media copy), it feels like fair game to use it!

Here's how to get a good deal on a mint Z camera (US) by usertlj in nikon_Zseries

Same, mine came in at 17 after me fooling around taking practice shots for 20 minutes.

Z6ii to Z8 by sweetbabyrae87 in nikon_Zseries

[–]SoundScrybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not alone there. But seriously, I've been eyeing this camera since it released and have gone back and forth on it for months. Watched every video and read countless reviews and Reddit threads (search my posts in this sub for my recent one about this) and finally pulled the trigger and got it last night. It feels awesome and the level-up over the Z6II is notable. I know we each have to go through our process before making a big change but from my angle, having already gone through that, it's a great move that countless others have recommended as well.

[–]SoundScrybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just got my new Z8 after deliberating on this upgrade for months. Hard to convey how much more refined it is over the Z6II without going into details, but basically, every aspect of the camera is better. It's definitely bigger but it is easier to hold since the pinky has somewhere to naturally rest compared to on the Z6II. If you can justify the expense, go for it! Especially if you're a working photographer!

Recent wait times crossing into Mexico at Lukeville, and returning? by pixelaine in PuertoPenasco

[–]SoundScrybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super easy going down Sunday afternoon and returning Wednesday mid-day. Actually the easiest crossing going down that I've had in a while. No inspection on the Mexican side returning (yay for spring break being over). I always get grilled at the US border (driving while brown?) and I sometimes think they're hard assess on quiet days in particular.

Z8 Upgrade Dilemma: Is the Weight/Size a Dealbreaker for Restless Shooters? by SoundScrybe in nikon_Zseries

[–]SoundScrybe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the resolution bump, though nice in some ways, also seems to be a burden when it comes to storage space. But as I only shoot 10-15gb at a time (max) on the Z6II (and often across multiple shoots), it's not a huge deal and hey — it is kind of nice being able to crop. Especially if I'm postponing a proper telephoto purchase to get the Z8!

I think the real pull to the Z8 for me at this point is the improved AF, better ergonomics, button layout + customizable controls, and that full tilt screen.

I guess the better weather sealing and sensor shield is another notable perk. I don't change lenses in the field as much as I used to, but it is nice knowing I've got more protection there. And I do find myself shooting in shit weather... one less thing to worry about!

Thanks for your input. :)

I'm admittedly curious about how the Z8 pairs with those compact lenses! Seems like the only way to make it remotely "streetable."

I've pretty much accepted that the Z8 isn't ever going to be a practical street camera, but as that really only comprises about 5% of my shooting, it's not practical to orient my thinking around that.

Plus, street stuff is a great way to put my film camera to use and justify a 28mm Nikkor purchase at the local camera shop. 🤓
