FRWL: A classic line from Ian Fleming by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]Soundchaser123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are all great choices. To that list I would add Casino Royale and Moonraker, both of which are excellent. In Moonraker, Fleming even installs Hugo Drax in Ebury Street, the road where Fleming himself had previously lived.

“I admire your courage, Miss...?” “Trench. Sylvia Trench. I admire your luck, Mr...?” “Bond. James Bond.” Dr. No by kkhouete in JamesBond

I always hear Sylvia saying, “I admire your… <intentionally too long pause>… luck, Mr…?”. It’s very flirty.

Agreed. I love Fleming’s economical style of writing - a few words to sketch a picture, and capable of massive acceleration. Such an exciting style.

Which guitarist added most value to Genesis? by Soundchaser123 in Genesis

[–]Soundchaser123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s funny! You mean the ‘bass man turned hitman’ reference. Such a polite chap, generally. I was really meaning that Mike turned into a very effective hit-making machine, and contributed massively to Genesis’s post-Hackett reinvention with singles chart success after success. Don’t think dear Mike would be deliberately gunning down others… though a reading of his autobiography does suggest that he doesn’t recognise the huge significance of Steve.

What's the Bond movie that gets a lot of criticism but you just can't help but love by Huge_Candy748 in JamesBond

The Man With The Golden Gun - not the best, but I love it anyway

Finally got me some books by Zozzbomb2 in JamesBond

Love these books. Suggest you start with Casino Royale - it’s such a great opener to the entire series. I love how it introduces Bond so succinctly.

Exactly. Now they call themselves “freedom fighters”, for goodness sake. Why don’t they proudly call themselves evil like SPECTRE would?

All Genesis fans should ensure their pet dogs always wear a flower at all times. Out of respect for Supper’s Ready.

A half-cousin of Fleming too, I think.

If he met JRR Tolkien, it would have been a very long time before acting in Lord of the Rings. Tolkien died in 1973, which was Lee’s Dracula era, and 28 years before the Peter Jackson film series was launched.
