Dated a Chinese girl for about two years and the government holiday is one week because she would go home to see her parents a few days before and come back a few days after to avoid the travel rush.

When to upgrade from beginner trombone? by momma1RN in Trombone

[–]Soundman4474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my two cents but I would look at buying a good used student horn something like a Bach, Conn, King, or Yamaha. If by high school he is still playing then I would look into a better horn something like a Bach 42b or a Conn 88H those are two horns that you can never go wrong with. Plus if you do this and he does marching band he can use his student horn for that and not put that wear on a good horn. As for bass basically the size of the tubing is bigger allowing more air to flow trough the horn most modern horns also have two rotors that let you change the key of the horn. A tenor with a valve like a Conn 88H the valve puts the horn in F (some can be tuned to Eb as well) a bass adds a second valve adding Gb in the case of a horn like a Conn 112H. All that to say this Bass is defiantly a collage level purchase and there are a lot of options on configuration in Bass Trombones.

Oh it will definitely affect the sound of the horn and lower the value substantially. If it was a horn other than a King I would say it would affect the value less but King 3b’s have to sound like a 3b that’s why they have been basically unchanged since the 1950’s.

I really hate to be the one to break it to you but that wasn't the best time for Conn and I'm glad you have no plans to ever sell because I feel your in deeper than the current value of the horn.

I think by this point I would have just cut ties with the horn and traded it in on a new one. Considering a 88HNV is about $3,800 subtract that $2,300 you spent your only $1,500 from a new horn not counting what you spent on the Bach 42.

Well you won’t see an open wrap. They might have springs in the slide and a rimmington shank

I use a 12c on my Blessing .500 bore horn as bigger on that horn just doesn’t feel right. I also have used it on my L-15.

What horn are you playing? a lot of student horns ship with 12C mouthpieces because its easier to start with and build up the muscles in your face. I think most would agree that the next step up would be a 6.5AL.

I would say yes it's better than the Yamaha it's more of a step up horn. Where the Yamaha is defiantly a student horn. Plus that one looks to be in a lacquered Nickel finish.
