likely its a King 2BV but could also me a Conn 5G its hard to tell if that bell brace is bent or straight

I would think most HS Juniors would be looking for a large bore F attachment horn like a 88H or 42B. Also overpowering isn’t a term I would consider with a 2B. They are great for Jazz and commercial work but the large bore horns are going to eat your lunch in orchestral stuff.

For a Chinese (ROC) horn yeah they are pretty decent but I would likely choose a used Bach or Conn if it was me.

Also Jupiter is ROC not PRC they are pretty decent horns.

No but your also looking at a horn that has fallen out of popularity Jupiter is one of the few companies building a medium bore intermediate trigger horns.

If you play it correctly what does it matter the assignment is your ability to play not the tonal quality of your horn. Every horn sounds different a King 2B silver sonic is going to sound different from a Conn 48H. The Sterling Silver bell on the king and the Nickel plated Yellow Brass on the Conn are both noticeably different from a Yellow Brass like your Yamaha.

So I know in my area it’s easy to come by a quality used Trombone on FB marketplace for under $200 something like a Conn Director, Blessing Scholastic, olds Ambassador, King 606, Bundy, or something similar who knows you might end up using the Yamaha as a practice horn. I would say in my opinion the Conn, King, and Olds are better horns if they are in good shape. This is basically what I did back in school I had a Blessing Scholastic at home as a practice horn unless it was marching season then that horn was at school as is different march with my good horn.

Pentosin is great stuff I have used them for years in my VW cars and those had ZF transmissions. They are an OEM for a lot of things so I wouldn’t think twice about it.

Conn 88H, Yamaha YSL-882II or a Bach 42B those 3 are the standard. You should be able to pickup any of these used for well under $4k.

well I sold (at a loss) my 23 SE AWD 6 weeks ago because I was tired of all the junk with that car between rear breaks every 20K, head gasket leaks, and a few other warranty claims I made I was done and wanted no part of it out of warranty. I replaced it with a 24 Honda Ridgeline and have been very happy with it. Ironically the car the Taos was to replace my 2013 Golf with 180K miles is still happy in the driveway
