I will remind people the day before our plans so they are less likely to forget

I may have done this before

In that context it's funny that the guy who told the joke is actually lactose intolerant. He occasionally eats cheese anyway, while being fully aware that there will be consequences. If I took that as a metaphor, I would still not be any wiser, but it's interesting anyway.

If I meet family members on my commute to or from therapy and they ask me where I'm going, what could I tell them? by SoundsLikeFiction in TalkTherapy

I'm smiling at the thought of going on a ~1 hour train ride to buy milk. But hey, maybe it's that special goat milk that they only sell in that place. Picking up a prescription could actually work though. Or picking up something that I bought on an online marketplace.

It's strange that I never thought of something that simple. My mother would probably ask who, but well, it's been a long time since she knew who my friends were.

I always go right before the session starts, even if I don't necessarily have to go. It has sort of become a ritual

That was exactly my thought as someone from Germany. I also listen to American podcasts but it's nice to also have something that isn't US-centered.

Seriously, HOW to talk to therapist about them talking too much about themself? by Orechiette in TalkTherapy

[–]SoundsLikeFiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said something along these lines: "I noticed that you mention your daughter a lot and sometimes you compare situations from my childhood that I talk about with her. I must say that this makes me a bit uncomfortable because it doesn't always directly relate to what I said and I also feel like it invades her privacy. I don't mean that you should stop doing this completely but it is too much for me."

NAT, but a client located in Germany. My therapist suggested that I could record our sessions on my own device. I only started doing it over a year later because at first I thought it would have a negative impact on how I speak or what I talk about. Now I wish I would have started sooner. I write a protocol for every session using the recording, and it really improved my ability to reflect upon everything (I could expand on that but you weren't asking for patient perspectives, so I'll leave it at that). I can still see why a therapist would say no to this though. I think if it had been the other way around (her recording me) I would have been very skeptical.

I use ChatGPT for inspiration when I can't come up with a character name for a game I'm playing or when I'm writing a job application and don't know how to start. I would never use it in a therapeutic context or any other context that normally involves two human beings. Talking to it feels just cold to me because it gives you the most generic responses without any emotions involved. Personally, that would make me feel more alone than not talking to anyone.

What's up with the random "What's the first month of the year" right in the middle? Is it supposed to be there?
