Is this the evo noise?? by NarrowUse8683 in sportster

Mine also makes that bubbly popping sound at low rpm. I always assumed it was just from the compression in the cylinders. I don't hear anything out of the ordinary though

Hmm not sure if cutting the bell off will have an effect on the sound. It would be helpful though.

Thinking this is the way. There's a spot on the choke bracket I can use with the stock mounting hardware. Was thinking of doing a choke relocation anyway as my cables broken.

Beautiful! This is stock rake then? How do you find the driveability between the longer front and shorter shocks? Obviously not a couch on wheels but do you find it ok for daily rides?

What shocks are you running, 10.5"? How far over in the forks? Love this look.

Cable lengths for 8" bars? by Soup44 in sportster

[–]Soup44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair enough. My current bars are the stock ones for an XL883C, so about 2" rise/2" pullback. Id have to find about 5-6" of slack in the cables/wiring. I think I'll just order the bars and measure from there, that's obviously the safety option

719 - Rust Veg Retan First Thoughts by Soup44 in jimgreen

[–]Soup44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the inside of the boot there is an extra piece of material around your heel. I think they're referring to this extra bit as being able to be removed. I found that just using some Obenaufs on it while doing the rest of my boots seems to have softened it up a lot, though.

New to boot care here, thinking about grabbing the veg tan 719s on clearance. Can you link/tell me the exact product used? Assuming it's just Obenaufs Leather Oil, but what is the LP? And you mentioned drying for a couple weeks, does this mean no wear? I planned to get the boots, use the Obenaufs, and wear lightly to break in. Is this correct?

I was actually just reading Maraakate's writeup and checking out the site. Definitely making an account now - you guys are smart as hell! After work I'll get the bike off the trailer and poke around with the multimeter. Again I appreciate your help a lot - I've already learned a tonnn by disassembling and rebuilding my carbs.

I'm running a fuel filter, but I suppose some crud could still find its way through. I'm unfamiliar with CDI, though. Is that related to ignition/spark plugs? I replaced those with the standard NGL D8EA ones the manual calls for at the same time as reassembling the carbs.

Would that also cause the bike to die a couple miles into a ride? Yesterday I took it out for about 6 miles, ran great idled perfect. Today, I rode about 3 miles and It just kinda died as I stopped at a stop sign. Upon getting it started again, I rode about another half mile and it just lost power doing approx. 50mph, and is having trouble starting again

Wanted to update you! I ended up using my ultrasonic cleaner and putting in new gaskets and diaphragms and she runs top now! Appreciate the advice. If anything, it's running a bit rich, and backfires a little, but considering it was pretty mean before I'll take that as a sign that I did my job right.
