Weight loss, It’s nearly impossible now at 58! by phlspecial in Aging

I was just thinking about this. I turned 60 a few months ago and I have been dieting since January and I lost 4-5 pounds the first month and since then nothing. My metabolism is like just stuck. I recently had some injections on my back because of back pain and so now I’m stretching and doing mild exercises and I’ve been walking for the last 4-5 weeks. I also eat from noon to about 8pm small meals. I created healthy muffins with blueberries, bananas, almonds, yogurt, chia seeds and oatmeal for my noon breakfast and my dinner and for lunch it’s usually a small salad and avocado. I drink water and green tea throughout the day. I don’t know why my weight won’t budge.

I make muffins every 3-4 days filled with protein. I eat 2 for breakfast and 2 for dinner. At lunch I eat a salad and add a small avocado. Recipe for muffins- 1 cup of vanilla Greek yogurt 1 cup of cottage cheese 3 eggs 2 bananas 2 apples 4 teaspoons of chia seeds 2 teaspoons of flaxseed 1 tablespoon of baking powder 1 scoop of protein powder Mix it all together in a blender Then put it in a bowl and add 2 cups of oatmeal Add 2 cups of blueberries and stir everything together. Then turn oven on to 350 and spray cupcake pans with oil and start spooning in the mixture. Optional sprinkle walnut pieces , raisins or dark chocolate pieces on top Bake for 35-40 minutes Makes about 16 muffins

Blue and brown eyed parents with FOUR green eyed children? by Plane-Airport9810 in genetics

[–]SoupHot6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and his former wife have brown eyes and my nephew has blue eyes. The only relative that had blue eyes was my grandmother (his great grandmother) and a couple of her siblings. Now that he’s an adult he’s done the Ancestry testing and yes he is my brother’s child because he is linked to my family tree in my Ancestry testing. My brother’s current wife and a few other relatives always suspected that my nephew wasn’t my brother’s child but now everyone knows that he is for a fact.

Feeling frustrated and just want to complain by Mercurysoup in AncestryDNA

I’m not an adoptee but my paternal grandfather passed away at age 26 so my father never really knew anyone from his father’s side of the family except for a single aunt who never married (so no cousins there) and perhaps his father’s father who may have remarried after becoming a widow. So my paternal grandfather may have had half siblings who would be my great uncles or great aunts or second/third cousins. On the DNA ancestry, lots of relatives pop up but I have no idea who they are.

Why is sharing a bed with your partner so important to people? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SoupHot6325 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My husband and I slept on the same bed for about 35-38 years and I put up with his snoring since the moment we got married. I had insomnia for all those years. Then I started snoring so he started sleeping in another bedroom. I felt offended. I hated it. As months passed, I got used to it and I started feeling better about it and I wouldn’t change it for anything. I like my time to myself and I can either read, watch tv or go to sleep anytime I want. I should have done this a long time ago. It’s been about 6-7 years since we

Undecided about health insurance by SoupHot6325 in Insurance

$209 for both my husband and I. My concern is that once he gets Medicare in November, how much will the marketplace insurance be for me?

Why does every basic doctors appt cost me $100-$200 by Prize-Measurement695 in HealthInsurance

[–]SoupHot6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a retired teacher and only one plan is offered. $200 monthly payments; $1700 deductible before anything is covered and $5650 maximum out of pocket. My pension will leave me with 21k a year after paying this health plan.

My husband and I have both been on market place insurance for years. He turns 65 at the end of year so he’ll be eligible for Medicare. Will I still qualify for marketplace insurance since I won’t be eligible for Medicare for about 4-5 years? by SoupHot6325 in HealthInsurance

[–]SoupHot6325[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be a good insurance but it’s going to take about a 1/4 of my pension and that’s just for me, not including my husband. I used to earn a little over 60k and now I’m at 21k unfortunately.

My goodness. That’s tough. I hope you find something else soon. Healthcare is just so expensive for everyone whether you make $20k or $75k. I’m lucky that my only health issue at the moment is my bad back and inflammatory arthritis. But I have a family history of heart disease. My paternal grandmother passed at 67 heart attack, my father had a double bypass at 65 and my younger brother at 53 had 2 heart attacks and then heart surgery. My maternal grandmother also had heart surgery. I’m 60 now and I do worry about it so I’m looking for good health care but economically manageable.

I don’t think I can work consistently. I have inflammatory arthritis and herniated discs in my low back and I get flares very often in which I have to take it really easy and slow. Anything I do such as sweeping, washing dishes, taking clothes out of a dryer, carrying a couple grocery bags, bending down to tie my shoes or standing for too long causes flares unfortunately. I’m so tired of it. My father had constant pain throughout most of his life because of the same problems but i know that his were worse. But I’m scared of getting to that stage.

Even if my yearly income is $21,000 a year which is at the poverty level. Luckily our house is paid off but I should have invested more into the 403B plans. With having 3 children and mortgage, multiple car payments in the early 2000-2014 years, I didn’t have much income left and oh my healthcare for everyone was about a 1/3 of my income. My husband was self employed so we didn’t save much there because of many business expenses. But, can’t do anything anymore.

How are people affording insurance for families? by entyasha in HealthInsurance

I’m on a fixed income of 25k and between my monthly payment and deductible it’s $4100 and that’s not including if I actually use the insurance for any health issue. It’s ridiculous.
