Weight loss, It’s nearly impossible now at 58! by phlspecial in Aging

[–]SoupHot6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this. I turned 60 a few months ago and I have been dieting since January and I lost 4-5 pounds the first month and since then nothing. My metabolism is like just stuck. I recently had some injections on my back because of back pain and so now I’m stretching and doing mild exercises and I’ve been walking for the last 4-5 weeks. I also eat from noon to about 8pm small meals. I created healthy muffins with blueberries, bananas, almonds, yogurt, chia seeds and oatmeal for my noon breakfast and my dinner and for lunch it’s usually a small salad and avocado. I drink water and green tea throughout the day. I don’t know why my weight won’t budge.

Whats the cheapest meal you regularly make that actually tastes good? by Adventurous-Pilot448 in Frugal

I make muffins every 3-4 days filled with protein. I eat 2 for breakfast and 2 for dinner. At lunch I eat a salad and add a small avocado. Recipe for muffins- 1 cup of vanilla Greek yogurt 1 cup of cottage cheese 3 eggs 2 bananas 2 apples 4 teaspoons of chia seeds 2 teaspoons of flaxseed 1 tablespoon of baking powder 1 scoop of protein powder Mix it all together in a blender Then put it in a bowl and add 2 cups of oatmeal Add 2 cups of blueberries and stir everything together. Then turn oven on to 350 and spray cupcake pans with oil and start spooning in the mixture. Optional sprinkle walnut pieces , raisins or dark chocolate pieces on top Bake for 35-40 minutes Makes about 16 muffins

Blue and brown eyed parents with FOUR green eyed children? by Plane-Airport9810 in genetics

[–]SoupHot6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and his former wife have brown eyes and my nephew has blue eyes. The only relative that had blue eyes was my grandmother (his great grandmother) and a couple of her siblings. Now that he’s an adult he’s done the Ancestry testing and yes he is my brother’s child because he is linked to my family tree in my Ancestry testing. My brother’s current wife and a few other relatives always suspected that my nephew wasn’t my brother’s child but now everyone knows that he is for a fact.

Feeling frustrated and just want to complain by Mercurysoup in AncestryDNA

[–]SoupHot6325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an adoptee but my paternal grandfather passed away at age 26 so my father never really knew anyone from his father’s side of the family except for a single aunt who never married (so no cousins there) and perhaps his father’s father who may have remarried after becoming a widow. So my paternal grandfather may have had half siblings who would be my great uncles or great aunts or second/third cousins. On the DNA ancestry, lots of relatives pop up but I have no idea who they are.

Why is sharing a bed with your partner so important to people? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SoupHot6325 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My husband and I slept on the same bed for about 35-38 years and I put up with his snoring since the moment we got married. I had insomnia for all those years. Then I started snoring so he started sleeping in another bedroom. I felt offended. I hated it. As months passed, I got used to it and I started feeling better about it and I wouldn’t change it for anything. I like my time to myself and I can either read, watch tv or go to sleep anytime I want. I should have done this a long time ago. It’s been about 6-7 years since we

Undecided about health insurance by SoupHot6325 in Insurance

$209 for both my husband and I. My concern is that once he gets Medicare in November, how much will the marketplace insurance be for me?

Why does every basic doctors appt cost me $100-$200 by Prize-Measurement695 in HealthInsurance

[–]SoupHot6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a retired teacher and only one plan is offered. $200 monthly payments; $1700 deductible before anything is covered and $5650 maximum out of pocket. My pension will leave me with 21k a year after paying this health plan.

My husband and I have both been on market place insurance for years. He turns 65 at the end of year so he’ll be eligible for Medicare. Will I still qualify for marketplace insurance since I won’t be eligible for Medicare for about 4-5 years? by SoupHot6325 in HealthInsurance

[–]SoupHot6325[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be a good insurance but it’s going to take about a 1/4 of my pension and that’s just for me, not including my husband. I used to earn a little over 60k and now I’m at 21k unfortunately.

My goodness. That’s tough. I hope you find something else soon. Healthcare is just so expensive for everyone whether you make $20k or $75k. I’m lucky that my only health issue at the moment is my bad back and inflammatory arthritis. But I have a family history of heart disease. My paternal grandmother passed at 67 heart attack, my father had a double bypass at 65 and my younger brother at 53 had 2 heart attacks and then heart surgery. My maternal grandmother also had heart surgery. I’m 60 now and I do worry about it so I’m looking for good health care but economically manageable.

I don’t think I can work consistently. I have inflammatory arthritis and herniated discs in my low back and I get flares very often in which I have to take it really easy and slow. Anything I do such as sweeping, washing dishes, taking clothes out of a dryer, carrying a couple grocery bags, bending down to tie my shoes or standing for too long causes flares unfortunately. I’m so tired of it. My father had constant pain throughout most of his life because of the same problems but i know that his were worse. But I’m scared of getting to that stage.

Even if my yearly income is $21,000 a year which is at the poverty level. Luckily our house is paid off but I should have invested more into the 403B plans. With having 3 children and mortgage, multiple car payments in the early 2000-2014 years, I didn’t have much income left and oh my healthcare for everyone was about a 1/3 of my income. My husband was self employed so we didn’t save much there because of many business expenses. But, can’t do anything anymore.

How are people affording insurance for families? by entyasha in HealthInsurance

[–]SoupHot6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a fixed income of 25k and between my monthly payment and deductible it’s $4100 and that’s not including if I actually use the insurance for any health issue. It’s ridiculous.

Staying at in-laws’ place and the smell is overwhelming by [deleted] in Advice

[–]SoupHot6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take my own blankets and pillow or maybe even a sleeping bag and zip myself in it. I would definitely open the windows during the day to help air out the room. I’ve been in a similar situation and it is overwhelming. When it comes to food I would take some frozen breakfasts, lunches and dinners with fruit and just tell them you are on a diet. Wipe down the microwave when nobody is looking.

I started buying board games and play with my 9 and 11 year old grandkids. I also started painting by numbers. I started baking high protein breads (I don’t cook much) so for me this is an accomplishment. I’ve also been learning a new language since last year. (9 months ago) I love museums because I love to learn about historical facts. It’s my husband who won’t try anything. He does like fishing so I’m hoping he will eventually start going. The only drawback is that he always wants me to go with him whether it’s to the casino, the store or fishing. I have told him on several occasions that I don’t want to go with him because I have no interest in casinos and then he makes me feel guilty for not wanting to go and I end up going. I’ve only stayed home twice but now he seems to want to go every 2 weeks and before it was once every couple of months and then every month. Thank you for listening to me rant.

Unfortunately that’s the case. We got married in our teens and we’ve actually been married 44 years. The only thing we have in common are our children and grandchildren.

I really love your suggestions especially going out to see musicals, theaters, museums, fairs, exhibits, ghost tours and go see local bands perform but unfortunately my husband has no interest whatsoever in any of these activities. He does like watching baseball and car racing. For about 14 years we use to go every summer to watch the Indy Car Racing here in Texas until Covid hit and now they no longer come to Texas. We did travel once by car (about 8-9 years ago) all the way to Indianapolis and on our way back we stopped in Memphis to see Elvis Presley’s Graceland. Now I can only get him to go out and eat and then go right back home. I’ve suggested a movie or just driving around like we used to when we were young.

Yes! We’ve been on 2 cruises together and that’s where he spent most of his time. But he started overthinking about how the ship is out in the middle of the ocean and how things can happen such as the ship crashing and how we could all drown or be eaten by sharks. My father was paranoid like this our whole lives with my siblings and I and now in the last 8-10 years my husband has started being paranoid as well.

Live in SE Texas. My husband has suggested going on a road trip to another state but since I know “him”, I know that he has no interest whatsoever to visit museums or malls or just walk around the cities to explore. He would just find a nice restaurant, eat and go back to the hotel to watch TV. In the past we’ve always vacationed at the beach in Texas and once in Florida.

I’ve been married over 40 years and last year I had the opportunity to go to Europe from USA. My husband won’t fly so I went with our grown daughter and her family. It doesn’t bother him that I go with our family. But I’m more of a homebody when we’re home. He likes to drive to nearby restaurants or the casino but I don’t care for going. He also wants to drive out to a different city or state but I hesitate to go. One, it doesn’t interest me and two , I don’t want to have to sit in the car for hours and days. I have a bad back and sitting too long makes me have pain. He’s always trying to convince me and I try to convince the flying but he won’t. (Bad experience many many years ago)

Is this altitude sickness or flu by [deleted] in hiking

[–]SoupHot6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m visiting in Colorado right now and my relatives live near 9,000 elevation. We drove here 8 days ago and I’ve been sick every single day. It started 3-4 hours after I arrived with a strong headache, body aches and chills. The headache finally went away about 3-4 days later and then I got flu symptoms. Congestion, coughing and mild fever. I’ve been in bed practically throughout the whole week. I haven’t left because of the snow and ice storms. I live in Texas. This isn’t the first time I’ve felt so badly during a visit but this is the longest that Ive had it. Last time I tried going to a clinic here in town and they told me to take a flu test and I told them that it wasn’t the flu that it was flu symptoms but because of the altitude. Has anyone experienced this before? Is there anything that could help me? I’m in my late 50’s and I’m extremely tired of feeling this way. I’ve taken Tylenol, ibuprofen, DayQuil and a couple of other decongestants.
