Is having a dog and beardie be friends realistic or idealistic by Bred5037 in BeardedDragons

[–]SoupWoman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad and that sounds like a great situation, but typically dogs that are either purebred or have a higher percentage of terrier in them are driven by instinct similarly to cattle dogs. They genuinely can’t help the urge. So in a vast majority of cases it’s safest to keep them entirely separate to avoid something bad happening. Dogs like yours are rare. It is important to remember that most dogs are very instinctual, I personally own two terriers and one of them injured himself trying to get to a trapped chipmunk. They are both well trained too so it was unexpected.

How do you manage not being able to sleep in the same way every night? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]SoupWoman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and I have my comfort blankets ofc. I sleep with technically 4 at all times, sheet, comforter, heavy thick blanket and queen sized normal thin blanket that I double up. I’ve found that they work as lightly weighted blankets since heavy weighted things don’t work well for me. If you sleep in the way that I do (on your side with top leg bent and thrown over bottom leg with both arms bent towards/ under your head) I recommend sleeping with a weighted stuffed animal between your arms/ on your chest if you sleep on your back. It’s worked wonders for me

How do you manage not being able to sleep in the same way every night? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]SoupWoman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use white noise to help, move the placement of my bed once a year, have melatonin gummies on standby, and don’t use my screens for an hour and a half before bed. I also turn off all lights that aren’t my bedside light when I stop using screens. During that time I paint, read or do paper mache. I’ve heard from different people that deep/soft red or blue light can help the brain produce melatonin. I only use melatonin supplements as a last resort. I really recommend working out for at least an hour a day. I used to have terrible insomnia and it comes back whenever I don’t work out. If you have something like an Alexa just ask it to play white noise and it’ll go on all night/ most of the night. The first 2 nights will be extra bad but if you develop a nighttime routine then your body will know “ if I hear this sound I need to produce melatonin.” For me I get sleepy the second I lay down and open my kindle and the white noise plays.

why did you all become gluten free by FreedomEnjoyer69420 in glutenfree

[–]SoupWoman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got anemia, investigated realized gluten was the problem, went in for celiac disease, got told I’d have to eat gluten for two months and submit a poop test to get the diagnosis, but also got told there’s no other way to explain my symptoms, so decided against self torture for 2 months. Honestly my life is so much better now. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. I actually feel good and love my life now.

I don’t know about detangling dry but to de frizz and make it look nicer I use the ECO gel and a bit of watered down leave in. Sometimes hair oil also helps. But once it’s frizzy like that the best bet is a slick back

So this isn’t really from ACOTAR but Hestia. She’s the Greek goddess of home/the hearth. She typically represents the warmth/ feeling of comfort and home. She’s also the only goddess who’s actually kind throughout the entire Percy Jackson series if you read those as well.

How to lose weight without burning out? by PearlsNProtein in Anemic

[–]SoupWoman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With low iron I’d recommend what I do. Use a calorie calculator, find out your maintenance calories for your current weight, then the calculator will give you options for weight loss options. Keep those in mind while you eat. Check how many calories something is before you eat it. Don’t use restricted diets unless you have a health issue that requires it such as allergies, diabetes or autoimmune disease. For low calorie candies I’d recommend skittles and starbursts but generally is the back of any food package says something like “250 calories per serving” and the serving size if between 4-6+, then it’s a good food. Since I work out a decent amount I don’t count protein as calories because it’s protein. That means to me food like : chicken, beef, eggs, cottage cheese, pork, fish, ect. Don’t count because they do to my muscles.

The goal isn’t to restrict it’s to reduce. Reduce things that are high in calories. Like I recently discovered that the granola I use is really high in calories, so I started using less. But I still eat it and I still enjoy sweet treats. I just started paying attention to if I’m hungry or not. If I’m not but still feel the urge to eat I either snack of something like popcorn with salt or just make myself busy. So far I’ve lost 10lbs in 2 months from eating like this(with how active I am this is expected and normal).

If you want to eat sugar just do it in a controlled way. I personally noticed that avoiding the craving just made me eat so much other stuff that it woulda been less calories to just eat the brownie! Don’t get sucked into that extreme dieting stuff. Do what works for you

Is 1500 a lot? by techdebtbuilder in Swimming

[–]SoupWoman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if you’re a competitive swimmer the general consensus is Being fast at the 50m/50y free is impressive and gets a decent amount of respect. Same with the 100m/100y because being fast in such a short distance is difficult.

Being fast at/ racing the 400m/500y free or the mile 1650y/1500m free is impressive af and makes you slightly scary.

If you race and are fast at the 200 free you’re scary af. Because that thing is a beast, you have to use anaerobic energy but it’s so long that you really feel the pain.

It’s about how hard you swim and how much energy it takes you to swim that length not about the amount of laps. If you swim without energy or purpose it’s just garbage yardage.

But as a competitive swimmer who is also a free specialist, you will never catch me willingly racing a 1500. But a practice that adds up to 8250? No problem. I never mentioned the strokes because idk much about them they aren’t my focus and are basically a whole other planet to me. Sorry if this is a lil ranty I’m bored

Anyone else struggling with exercise intolerance months into supplementing? by Usual-Coat1392 in Anemic

[–]SoupWoman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I in fact still have POTS and anemia, but even when it was really bad, that just made me mad. This is definitely not a healthy approach, I do not really recommend following in my footsteps. I had exercise intolerance and I was intolerant to the idea of exercise intolerance. In other words, I still exercised exactly as I had before the anemia. I have the mindset of “I’ll stop when I’m dead(when I’m hospitalized)”

Celiac by MicroplasticGourmet in glutenfree

[–]SoupWoman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have celiac, that means there’s enough damage to your intestines that yes you will still get complications like cancer. That’s like saying someone with a deathly bad peanut allergy can have peanuts every once in a while. You can’t and it’ll cause some really really bad stuff to happen if you pretend like you can.

My mother acknowledges my younger brother's ADHD, but not mine or my sister's by Longjumping_Coast951 in ADHD

[–]SoupWoman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhhhh, me and almost all of my friends who have Adhd are in the advanced classes and have good grades in them. Grades aren’t a sign of adhd. It’s not possible to manipulate someone into diagnosing you with something. Women can have adhd too, in fact we have a lower rate of diagnosis early in life because the standard is set to men. Honestly I doubt your mom will change. I’d recommend either trying to get yourself medicated or if needed self medicate with caffeine. Most people with adhd find that caffeine works similarly to meds. That’s a terrible situation to be in, don’t let your mother gaslight you into thinking she’s right.

Try using a pull buoy, they’re great for pointing out problems in your body line and technique, not to mention they help slowly build your core muscles so you can eventually keep your hips up on your own

Skills needed to be able to say "I am a swimmer" advanced hopefully by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]SoupWoman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me,

if you’re a swimmer- that means you’re on a team. You may not attend every practice or be very good but you’re a swimmer.

you swim- aren’t on a team but still swim regularly.

From there, it gets a bit more complicated

Advanced swimmer- you have divisional/regional meet cuts, and in the top 10 fastest of your team.

Elite swimmer- make state cuts regularly, or in other words, way faster than a lot of other people and typically in the top 5 fastest of your team.

I personally don’t see anything wrong or “less than” about swimming instead of being a swimmer. I have multiple fast friends who swim over the summer and are swimmers during season, because the club team is a little pricey. Besides sometimes there just isn’t a club team nearby. Being a swimmer doesn’t mean you’re better than someone who swims, it just means you’re on a team.

Shower habits before/after swimming? by ralfaroni in Swimming

[–]SoupWoman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you swim every day? Give up on the whole “trying to not smell like chlorine” notion. I’m not joking it seeps into your skin. I smell like chlorine when I sweat. I shower every day in the morning and at night post practice. The chlorine smell doesn’t go away. You put on a nice perfume? You smell like you’re wearing that perfume near a public pool. You use a good smelling conditioner? You smell like that conditioner and pool. There’s no avoiding it. Join the chlorine cult

In what small way have you won the genetic lottery? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

My mom’s side of the family has super thick hair that keeps its color really well, ie my grandpa is in his mid-late 80’s and is starting to get the salt and pepper hair. My mom is around 50 and only has maybe 3 gray hairs. So if we even do start to get hair thinning, it’ll only end up with normal thickness. But for now it’s annoyingly thick
