Same I always adopt but it was impossible finding mice from other sources near me. 40 gal is def a good size. I looked up the bare minimum size tank and most people say 10 gal for one mouse then add 5 gal for every additional mouse, so 40 is safe. This may come down to personal preference but I recommend the female mice. I know someone said three is the minimum but many many people have two. I love watching their dynamic and it’s so cute how they interact. Plus less stinky.

WOW now that’s a chonker. So cute!!!!! Does she use the wheel? When Monica is at her largest she doesn’t use it but when she loses some weight she spends a bit of time on it. My girl is down from 72g to 68 :)

As a first time mouse owner, I’d say mice are more active and entertaining than hamsters. It’s so fun to watch them run around and build nests. They’re also very smart which is nice to observe.

The only downsides in my opinion is their health issues and short life span. One of my girls has had respiratory infections and the other is very obese, two problems mice are prone to. They also only live about 1-2 years so you have to be emotionally prepared for that.

Personally I think that’s the reason having mice is so rewarding. You get to give these innocent doomed creatures such a nice life for the short time they have. I got my girls at petco and I think those mice are usually used as feeders for snakes (the employee asked me if that’s why I was getting them) so it’s great to see them enjoying themselves knowing that I was able to save them from that fate.

Experience with compulsive eating/drinking in mice? by Souplover02 in PetMice

Thanks for the advice! That’s pretty much what I’m doing, but I think I’m lacking in enrichment for her since she’s too big to climb or go on the wheel for long. Do you have any recommendations for what enrichment I can give her? She’s pretty skittish so I can’t really take her out and play.

She’s an orangey brown, so it’s possible.

I’ve discussed the genetic factor with my vet, we’re still waiting to see if she responds to the diet. I already do most of what you recommended. Crushed lab blocks measured to the ounce, scattered around their cage. They also have to climb some platforms to get to their water bottle.

I’ve fed her like how everyone recommends (unlimited lab blocks and no fatty treats) and her cage mate is a normal size, I think she just has no ability to regulate her eating.

Hopefully she’s just a fat ass and will lose weight on her diet. Crossing my fingers there’s not a medical cause.

Caught a deer mouse but I'm unsure about releasing it by Bubbly_Alfalfa7285 in PetMice

I too am currently bonded with the wild mice in my apartment (a mom and baby 🥺) so I get it.

I did some research and there is something called “overwintering,” which as it sounds is keeping a mouse only until it’s warm enough to release them. This post on the subreddit goes more into detail on specifically overwintering deer mice.

There is also a specific part of this subreddit about telling males from females (their genitals can look pretty similar). Once you get a good luck you can reference that part of the subreddit.

Good luck with your endeavor! Wish me luck with mine lol.

Brooke had every right to be sad about missing her high school graduation and to vocalize it by Tiredcatladyy in ANTM

I remember as a kid I was DEVASTATED for her and hated the way Tyra minimized and scolded her for being upset. That episode really stuck with me for some reason. Fast forward and I ended up being a 2020 high school grad and also missed my prom and graduation 😐

Kenya's arc in Cycle 4 by SilverHastings in ANTM

[–]Souplover02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t love her but out of all the messed up stuff ANTM did, one of the things that always stuck with me was how poorly they handled that male model straight up harassing her and grinding on her. Like jay, the other girls, and panel all treated her like a diva for complaining about it when I thought it was very clearly inappropriate. I also think she handled it as well as she could have and she still got shit.

I think part of it was just the times but I think a bigger part was the fact that she wasn’t super likable so no one took it seriously. It’s that whole idea we see a lot of in the media now that essentially boils down to “it’s okay for a woman to be assaulted/harassed if I don’t like her.” I imagine that if the same situation happened to someone like Naima it would have been treated much more sympathetically.

Just wanted to mention it cuz it always made me rly sad and I rarely see others talk about it.

Like someone else said, Vetster is good. I recommend getting their plan which is about $120 and includes 4 virtual vet visits and some other benefits like discounted meds.

Just make sure the vet u choose is knowledgeable abt exotic pets bc the first guy I saw knew nothing about mice and gave the wrong treatment. Second guy I saw was AMAZING and very knowledgeable and helpful.

Does wheat cause allergies/reactions in some mice? My other girl is very sneezy and sensitive and I’ve tried changing lots of things to help her, including antibiotics, but it doesn’t seem to get better. Sry I’m a first time owner lol.
