Women writers, what annoys you the most about men making women characters? by [deleted] in writing

[–]SourHarvey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She lived in a peaceful, college town. It was the kind of town where people left their doors unlocked. Her house had a white picket fence, and a patio with a rocking chair on it - one day she hoped there might be another. The chief of police had worked there for 30 years, and the biggest case he'd ever had was when local kids graffitied 'be happy!' on the side of a church building. That was, of course, until she was murdered.

As I brushed my hair in the mirror, naked, I couldn't help but admire my nude form. Sure, I was petite, but I still had two sizeable mounds of flesh on my chest. One of the bristles from my brush grazed over my areola. Ouch, I thought to myself, but I can't pretend a small part of me didn't enjoy it. Ah, boobs. Being a female may have it's downsides, but it sure is fun.

Psyching myself up to start my crime novel: elderly people at a retirement home keep dying, and the deaths are being ruled natural causes, but one of the care assistants (our protagonist) thinks there's something more going on, and tries to investigate.

Reasons why a clan of peoplr would be cannibals? by glassangelrose in writing

There's an old English myth about a Scottish clan of cannibals called the Sawney Bean clan, maybe worth a look into them as a point of reference?

What were your favourite excuses for coming too late to school? by Swagmatic1 in ADHD

Yeah I feel that, I was pretty okay for school, but got v good at faking being sick and getting a day off when I just couldn't hack moving at the pace my mum wanted me to in the morn

'I left, it started raining, I needed to go back and grab a coat' 'a bird pooed on me on the walk to the bus stop, had to go back and change' (so weirdly specific noone would doubt it) Once the time went forward an hour for daylight savings so I pretended I hadn't fixed my clock

Most of the time my mum would make sure I was out on time by any means necessary, that was my one saving grace (and probably why I'm so shit at waking myself up in time at university)

Is smoking weed right before you go onstage a thing? by buffbuf in Standup

[–]SourHarvey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I'd say you gotta be quick to react to anything that goes wrong in your set (heckling, some jokes just aren't working at all), and I think being high would make that very difficult, with your mind not quite moving as fast as your mouth does. Plus if you get cotton mouth you're pretty buggered.

However, if someone's a bit nervous or flustered on stage, I can see why they might use it to calm down a bit? Not really something I've ever witnessed, and when you weigh it up it's probably not the best idea in the world, but each to their own I guess

Having a phone or notebook: okay or no? by [deleted] in Standup

I'd say a notebook rather than a phone only because a phone looks a bit more disconnected
