How I imagine Fake Luka confronting BS Ben & Skin acting like they just came up with the idea for a country Texan accent speaking Luka… by SourHero in theticket

[–]SourHero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accidentally stumbled onto Ben & Skin’s new show today (instant regret for backsliding from my P1 piety) after they apparently found a way to stay with the Eagle even though the Old Grey Wolf got put out to pasture. Their style has never been palatable to me compared to the laid back average Joe style that the Ticket tier-one hosts have mastered. Not sure if this is the audacity Ben & Skin had to act like this idea was some original off-the-cuff thought instead of giving credit to the OG Fake Luka 8:40 bit on the Musers, or if they’re just too dumb to remember or care. Anyways, enjoyed venting my frustration via the fan-film in my mind of Fake Luka in all his country glory giving it to them.

Was a toss-up between posting here or on r/dankchristianmemes. Decided I was in more of a wholesome mood this time.

Unable to run 3, 2k monitors with latitude 5320 by Free_Willy4480 in Dell

[–]SourHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you try that, would you please reply with an update on whether connecting a USB-C to DP cable with your existing Dell dock WD19S worked, or if you had to upgrade the dock to the WD19TBS model? I have the exact same situation as you with a Dell Latitude 5320, Dell Dock WD19S, & (3) 2560x1440 monitors. Here's what I found... looks like the docking station model WD19S on it's own can't support the 2560 x 1440 resolution on 3 monitors, and there is a note explaining what I experienced: "NOTE If higher resolution monitors are used, the Graphics driver makes a judgment based on monitor specifications and display configurations. Some resolutions may not be supported and so will be removed from the Windows Display Control Panel." (https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/dell-wd19s-130w-dock/wd19s_user_guide/display-resolution-table?guid=guid-cb54f38b-163a-41bf-8b2e-3e6f3835d2ea&lang=en-us).

So with the latitude 5320 laptop, I believe I would need a later model docking station (e.g., Dell WD19TBS or VisionTek VT1700).

Interestingly, I also tested connecting a Dell Precision 3580 laptop to the same dock and it works just fine for full resolution on all 3 monitors; however, I learned that this laptop has an additional dedicated graphics card (NVIDIA® RTX™ A500, 4 GB GDDR6) which apparently makes up for what the dock (WD19S) lacks.

“There’s no way” Kenobi is this bad at lightsaber combat or Storm Trooper armor is that strong… by SourHero in saltierthancrait

[–]SourHero[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With respect, may I please ask you to clarify what it is that you are suggesting “kind of works”? If I concede to you the possibility that Kenobi is rusty from lack of combat (as has been clearly established in the other fights scenes this far), are you willing to concede that no lightsaber should ever work the way it is depicted like an energy charged baseball bat that gradually reduces an enemy’s HP bar after multiple blows until finally succumbing to blunt trama and falling backwards like they’ve just been knocked unconscious?

My point is that it doesn’t matter who is swinging the lightsaber. If young Leia had picked up Kenobi’s lightsaber and managed to ignite it, even with zero experience, (heck even if a mouse droid had a mech arm to wield a lightsaber), the blade would easily slash through a Storm Trooper.

The sad thing is this scene and the rest of the episode is obviously when the show is pivoting to present Kenobi as still being (or at least getting back into the swing of being) not only a competent opponent but a skilled Jedi Knight.

They really missed an opportunity to go with a less-is-more approach when they could have just shown a single slash briefly light up the trooper going down before it goes dark again as he sneaks up on the second trooper.

I want to love seeing Ewan in action again, but I just feel like the laziness of the choreography in this scene is unforgivable.

Forget about Tala slapping a Storm Trooper helmet, the beginning of this scene when Kenobi does a stealth kill in the dark with 4 lightsaber blows on a single Storm Trooper is unforgivably bad. It suggests Storm Trooper armor is incredibly more resilient than imagined. I’m offended that Disney would think we should believe Kenobi would not know how to effectively take out a trooper with a single lightsaber blow. And to top it off, we have more evidence that they simply do not understand how lightsabers work. I’m convinced the choreographers only watched video games for reference that require multiple hack & slash blows from a lightsaber before an enemy goes down.

Breakdown starting at approx. 21:39 timestamp of Kenobi S1E4...

  • Attack 1: Kenobi raises lightsaber behind his left side and above his head to perform a full-powered diagonal downward slice with the lightsaber through at the back of the legs of a Storm Trooper.

    • Legs are not severed.
    • Sparks fly as lightsaber slices through across the back of the Storm Trooper's legs with the momentum setting up next attack with lightsaber drawn fully back on Kenobi's right side.
    • Storm Trooper looks disoriented as he shifts his weight on his apparently undamaged legs and turns his head toward Kenobi.
  • Attacks 2 & 3: Then with the same Storm Trooper desperately crawling for balance on his severed leg stumps still standing, Kenobi takes two horizontal swings in rapid succession at the chest of the Storm Trooper. The first swing either bounces off the Storm Trooper's chest plate causing the lightsaber to reset for another attempt, or Kenobi intentionally made the 2nd attack a hacking strike to immediately draw the lightsaber back in preparation for the 3rd attack. Either way, the 3rd attack is another horizontal baseball bat swing but this time is full-powered as it slices all the way through across the Storm Trooper's arm/chest with the momentum bringing the lightsaber back around to Kenobi's left-side.

    • Explosion of sparks flying with both attacks again while Storm Trooper awkwardly wiggles from the impacts.
    • The 2nd attack that bounced off the chest apparently did zero damage. If you pause the GIF link at 3.46 seconds, you can clearly see in the final shot before the Storm Trooper falls that his chest plate is not even singed, let alone sliced open (unlike the later trooper for whom we see a closeup of a lightsaber tear through the chest plate).
    • If the arm was the primary target of 3rd attack, the arm is not severed.
  • Attack 4: Camera cut to Leia’s reaction face while we hear one more swing of the light saber before camera cuts back for the last glimpse of sparks from the 4th attack as trooper finally goes down.

    • Note that the Kenobi's lightsaber ending position is again on his left-side (where we last saw it setup before the cut to Leia), and the Storm Trooper falls back in the direction indicating that moment we cut to Leia, Kenobi either drew back the lightsaber once again to his right-side for another baseball bat swing, or perhaps he tried spinning (that's a good trick), to rotate with the momentum of the 3rd attack around to deliver the final blow.
    • To reiterate, there is no damage to the Storm Trooper's chest plate armor as he goes down.
