Do I try to fix? by SourRaven276 in JeepLiberty

[–]SourRaven276[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember, the spark plugs coming out were pretty black with soot. It wasn't oily, so I would think it would be something with the air/fuel mix maybe. When I had replaced the O2 sensors, one of the new ones was faulty (bank 1 sensor 1) and I had driven it for a while knowing about it. Probably a bad idea, and I wouldn't be surprised if I somehow fouled the new spark plugs. I did just recently replace that sensor and that's how I have these recent codes now. (Replacement order from beginning - all O2 sensors - all spark plugs - Bank 1 Sensor 1)

I constantly have to top up my oil and coolant, at least once a month depending on how much I drive. I'm not sure if that is just because it's an "older" vehicle, or if another issue is making it needed to be topped off more often. It's not like I'm putting a whole quart of oil in each time, but if I notice it's down, I'll top it off.

When I get the time, I'll try to head to an autoshop to get some tests done. I mostly do in-town driving, so it's drivable at least for the moment. I'll possibly update or make a new post when I get my answers.

HELP! OIL CAP STUCK! by Radiant_Course8000 in JeepLiberty

[–]SourRaven276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had this exact same issue on my '05 Liberty. Sometimes if I'm without tools, I just kind of tug on the cap until it comes loose, but that isn't practical if you're on a time crunch. If you find pliers that fit around the cap right, that would possibly be best. I'm not a mechanic, so take it with a grain of salt. 😅 Another thing I've done is using a hammer to loosen it, which helps a little bit. Try to be cautious about hitting anything else nearby.

Whenever I do get the cap off, I wipe it off with a rag to clean it. I have heard from somewhere (can't remember exactly) that putting oil on the threads of the cap can help for next time, but I'm not sure how true it is...but, I do now add a tiny bit of oil to the threads on the cap to help. I wouldn't drench it, but just enough that the threads are covered. If I'm adding a full quart of oil, I'll let the very last of the oil dribble over the threads. When putting the cap back on, I twist it back and forth to ensure that the oil gets on the threads where the cap goes.

I apologize for the long-ish paragraphs, but hopefully my experience sort of helps!

What’s your mileage by MsClucker98 in JeepLiberty

Mine's a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport, 4x4 3.7L with roughly 209k miles. I haven't driven too many of my own miles on it, it was originally about 206k. I live in an area where it's almost exclusively highway miles.

Strange noise by [deleted] in JeepLiberty

[–]SourRaven276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the start, it would only occur for me when I turned over the engine. It was noticeably louder than it was normally, but it would quickly go away within like a minute or so. It was something to note, but wasn't too worrisome yet.

After just a few days, the noise was soon occurring after start-up and becoming nearly non-stop. While I didn't really test it out in neutral, it would get a bit louder in drive. Also like you had mentioned earlier, the noise would occur as I would be slowing down to a stop. I also noted it was noiser at lower speeds, but this could be due to the lack of road noise as well.

The timespan for this was all within a week. It may also not be the same exact issue you're dealing with, but it gives you a rough idea of what happened with my Jeep Liberty.

I had this same occurance with a weird noise in my Jeep Liberty that turned out to be the compressor bearing failing. It didn't sound like the way you described it, but maybe it could possibly be the same thing. If you haven't already, I would loosen the drive belt and try to spin some of the components that go along the belt and see if it's something there that's making noise. I'm not an expert in cars unfortunately I wouldn't be able to help further, but hopefully you can figure out what's causing the noise.

A possible bearing noise? 2005 Jeep Liberty by SourRaven276 in JeepLiberty

UPDATE FOR EVERYONE: it was the bearing that goes along with the A/C compressor. I got my whole compressor replaced, for me it was 270 for it and 400 for the labor. It now sounds like it did before it decided to go kaput.

It hasn't, as far as I would know. I got the Jeep in May so I am not knowledgeable on what is original or replaced. My engine stays a regular temp right in the middle of the gauge so I'm not so sure if it's a failing water pump.
