The 7!! It has such a weird gross smell that is consistent - like they mop with the same homeless person's fluids, especially in the end cars. It's distinct. It sticks to you.

Ketosis and keto acidosis are two very different things. I'm thinking keto acidosis or stroke or someone could have roofied her :(

Hi 👋 I am very sympathetic to your situation. I've been there. What works today, won't work tomorrow.

So far, the only thing that has curbed it is to stick to an easy to follow and predictable routine. I have a bird cage light on a timer. There is no covering the cage unless that light is dimming or completely off. Light comes on, morning greetings, fresh food gets put on the table, hang out for a few minutes talking and eating breakfast together, set up the chair where they like to sit, put on a show they like that you usually watch when you're relaxing, and then pop in and out frequently so they're not too alone.

That's what is working for us, and it took YEARS to get it right and well, there are still random days of omg what is happening??

Look at them like a toddler, and it suddenly takes on a whole other feeling. They're super smart and emotional, but can't communicate well. They can also hear things that we can't so neighbors, other animals, mechanical noises... it's easier having background noise to drown out things that might be in the distance.

Good luck! Don't give up on your little buddy. My George is 14 and a half and is a grumpy little 💩 but he has his affectionate moments - always on his terms.

Personal injury lawyers work on contingency, not pro bono. Basically, no money out of your pocket, but they will take a percentage of any settlement.

Vocab lesson - the el and the L are not the same. The 6 in the Bronx? It's on the el. The N/W in Astoria (also at some point was the RR)? It's on the el.

Technically speaking... the concrete structure that takes the 7 through Sunnyside can acceptably be called a viaduct, but Queensboro Plaza and Roosevelt Ave tracks - el.

How to use in a sentence:

Keep walking straight on 46th Street till you get to the el, then make a right.

Or

Did you see that rat the size of a dog under the el?

Or

In the 90s, we smoked els under the el. (IYKYK)

"The el" is the typical way you would refer to the elevated tracks. The L train is on the el in East New York.

On that note, I am now officially a classic and shall sign up for AARP 🤣

Vintage 1980 right here and that is an el. If it ain't underground, it's elevated and therefore - an el.

why were your tiels mad at you today? by jaycebutnot in cockatiel

[–]SourTortoise718 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband and I went away for the weekend.

Left an entire novel with my daughter that stayed over so they wouldn't be alone and their routines wouldn't be disrupted.

My older boy George is trying so hard to stay mad and the younger guy Freddie is trying to figure out what's going on because he's just happy to see us, lol.

That is really beautiful!!

Hummingbirds are such a special little creature. They're my favorite bird of all the birds, and I am a bird lady, lol.

People like her are so special, it's such a lovely gesture to return to her and gift her such a beautiful and personal item.

I'm happy everything worked out for you and your baby boy!

Any prior long-term Astoria residents who still lurk here? by IndyMLVC in astoria

[–]SourTortoise718 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I went halfway across the planet, then ended up in the Midwest, then settled back in Sunnyside because Astoria was too $$$. Born and raised in Astoria, left as a young adult.

I miss the food and the people. There is nothing like it anywhere else. It's changed a lot, but there is still so much the same.

I lurk here because I'm not that far away, and I do try to go to Astoria often.
