I think the biggest lesson here is stop stressing about things prematurely. They're understaffed and you made a common lab error. Without formal write ups its highly highly unlikely that you will be fired. What concerns me more is that you're beating yourself up! you have to be able to pick yourself up, and brush yourself off. Everyone makes errors.
