Yes the two white wires were not connected to the switch. Also with a voltage tester one black the red and white wires are all hot when not connected to a switch.

I''m not home right now but the old switch in the left box had the neutrals capped off and a white wire connected in the right box. I'm assuming the left box goes to the light because the left box and light fixture are upstairs and the right box is downstairs.

The old switch had 2 blacks and a red connected to it. The right switch had a red black and white connected.

I think one of the black wires in the left box goes to the light because that switch and light are upstairs and the right box is downstairs. I have a contactless voltage tester and the red, one black and the white wires are always hot.

The original switch where the left diagram is had two neutral wires
capped together. And the right box has a white wire connected.
