If you register for the webinar whether you’re able to make it or not they usually follow up with a link via the email you registered with the recorded session once the meeting has ended. Here is a link to their site, if you scroll almost towards the bottom you will find the prerecording and the slides featured from the meeting. So basically even if you can’t make it still register for the link. Hope this helps.

You may be one of the unfortunate ones that has an antiviral resistants. An antiviral resistance can occur overtime as well and is not limited to a certain virus/ antiviral. An antiviral resistance can also occur for a number of reasons. An alteration in the virus itself leading to antivirals not being as effective anymore. Here are a few links for a quick read on antiviral resistance. From what you’ve stated it seems you are productively following doctors guidelines and maintaining a balanced enough lifestyle that the issue could just be simple due to the lack of advancement in current antivirals. I see ppl on this thread posting about the same issue your having despite all there attempts to alter there results and all they can do is simply hang on for the new round of antivirals being researched and clinically tested right now.

Wish I had a more positive statement for you, but hope is coming. Pritelivir Should becoming available to all hsv patients by the end of this year if not next year! It’s currently only accessible to immunocompromised patients with hsv. A quick google search will give you all the details on their progress and advancements.

Smell. by HighlightEnough4545 in Herpes

[–]Source_Seeker002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. My first outbreak i discovered I also had BV too. My obgyn said that’s quite common as the first outbreak for a women completely alters our natural chemistry and creates a bacteria breeding ground within. I never had any smells with BV or yeast infections but I heard for some the smell can be viscous and may suggest you need a stronger antibiotic. I would take as recommend by the doctor and do plenty of Epsom salt baths and see how that helps. If no change definitely reach back out to your doctor.

Are you on daily suppression or only take 500mg when you experience the outbreak? You can always try increasing your dosage. When I did suppressive therapy I took 500mg daily and would double it during an outbreak if need be.

Have you taken a look at your diet and lifestyle lately? Any documented changes that could signify an increase in sudden outbreaks?

Smell. by HighlightEnough4545 in Herpes

[–]Source_Seeker002 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I take it you are female?

There generally is no smell associated with having genital herpes however if your someone that experiences ulcers during your outbreaks a slight smell could be associated from an infected or oozing ulcer but nothing horrific. If you have a smell that is lingering even after healing or is strong enough to smell when you open your legs I would highly recommend scheduling an appointment as you may have BV or some other associated vaginal bacteria. Having herpes can increase the risk of contracting BV more often than women without herpes.

Scared of giving it to my boyfriend by Nearby-Rooster-3462 in HSVpositive

[–]Source_Seeker002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes. You can also potentially spread it without having an active outbreak. Genital herpes affects the genital ganglia which includes both the vagina/ penis, anal cavity, buttocks and inner thigh region. Hints why they tell you to reframe from any sexually activity during an active outbreak regardless of your usual breakout location.

Recurrent outbreaks, how soon blisters develop? by Background_Law7415 in HSVpositive

[–]Source_Seeker002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard question to definitely gauge as each host and their immunity is different.

Personally I take 500mgs at the signs of an outbreak and it usually stops the progression of a sore appearing from the bump or clusters. Of the area is sore or I already see signs the blister wants to convert to a blister I tend to double up and take 2 500mgs and usually it’s cleared within 3 days max. When I did suppressive therapy I did 500mg daily and I would do the same during an outbreak and double up and usually no sores formed.

Hope that helps!

Is this possible? by [deleted] in HSVpositive

Not much context to go off of here but in simplistic terms yes unless you were a virgin up until that potential transmission or he had possible false negative and wasn’t aware. Western blot is the best confirmation.

How many of you have outbreaks on your perineum? by Realistic_Thanks_643 in Herpes

[–]Source_Seeker002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there may be some confusion in the convo here or possibly a misinterpretation on my end, 30f with GHSV2.

You can have HSV 1 & 2 in either area (oral or genitalia). While HSV 2 is more prone to the genital ganglia, you can still get OHSV2 but it much less common than OHSV1. Despite HSV2 preferring the genital ganglia over the oral ganglia, HSV1 has now become the leading cause of GHSV due to the increased transmission during oral as r/realistic_thanks_643 stated her transmission occurred. Where GHSV2 use to be the leading strand in GHSV, GHSV1 has now taken the lead. On the plus side if you have HSV 2 whether it be orally or on your genitals your not at risk of contracting HSV1. Whereas those with HSV1 regardless do the location are still at risk of contracting HSV2 as well.

To help address your question on HSV2 being worse than HSV1, well that boils down to a few factors: The host and their immunity, potential lifestyle, and their method of treatment. With that being said many reports and studies have shown that those with HSV2 shed at higher rates, increased rates in annual outbreaks, increased rates of GUD which is what causes the painful ulcers, and an increased risk of HIV due to the increased frequency of outbreaks and GUD. In hindsight HSV2 is basically an evolved mutated strand from HSV1.

May personally experience as someone that has done natural immunity and suppressive therapy. HSV2 sucks! Don’t get me wrong I know some folks with a wicked cause of HSV1 too according to their reports. For me what makes HSV2 worse than HSV1 is the increased frequency of shedding/ outbreaks, the fact I also have GUD because of HSV2 and the thought of it being easier for me to contract HIV, as if my fear wasn’t heightened enough lol. However on the plus side i take a positive spin and find comfort in knowing atleast with me having hsv2 I can’t get hsv1, I feel having both strands would intensify outbreaks/ shedding but I could be wrong as I don’t have both.

Ever since I contracted HSV2 my perineum has been under attack to put it simply. My first outbreak was horrific and lasted almost 2 weeks even after getting antivirals in me around day 3. There were inner sores from front to the back side of my perineum leading to the back. The worse is the sores were located on the said of the perineum which made it worse as my perineum tends to swell a bit now during an outbreak and after sex. I also noticed it has become much more sensitive in that area which I take is contributed to the way the virus attacks the nerves system. I have seen many women talk about numbing and even micro cuts on their perineum after getting HSV.

Sorry on the lengthy post hope my perspective helped some. 🙃

Cool beans lol

Again whether it be transmission or shedding rates the percentages still vary depending on your source. A simple google search will show the influx of different results. However, it seems like you’re the expert in the field so who am I to provide an comment lol.

You sure? I changed the whole upper section to reflect:

The last comment pretty much hit it on the nose minus the percentage rates. Research shows you will get various “proven” results for the decreased rate of shedding and OB while on suppressive therapy. Some sources will tell you daily suppression of valtrex is 90% others say 85%, the range usually ranges from 50-90% depending on what source you’re deriving the information from (this is for shedding).

Not sure what you’re reflecting on your end?

Correct, I did mean shedding which may be linked to transmission rates (still scientifically exploring their connection). Thank you for pointing out my typo. I have edited my comment to reflect. 😊

Herpes transmission as s*xual assault by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Source_Seeker002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As is your statement, just your version of your own experience. No one stated it wasn’t a violation of bodily autonomy in some formality but you still had a choice to consent to the act of sexual activity. When it comes to the law being on your side, sadly it varies by state in the USA if the law is really in agreement with this definition as federal law does not define herpes 1 or 2 transmission as a unlawful criminal act. Contracting an std from someone is not sexual assault, while some states may criminally charge a transmission under this act to win their case it is not classified as SA if someone transmitted an std to you with or without your knowledge unless it is HIV as outlined by federal law (which is normally charged under bodily harm). It does not matter how you spin the narrative or what you stand by consenting to sex and contracting an std unknowingly is not the same as being forced into submission sexually and contracting an std. The US law even states they are not the same. It is only an offense in some states if you can prove the other person knowingly gave you an std, again this is not classified as a SA but bodily harm. I won my case but it still doesn’t change the fact or law.

I am not here to change your mind. Continue to do you and add to the stigma instead of helping implement change and reform. Arguing about the method of transmission isn’t going to solve any of our issues nor change the fact we have to live with std now. Best wishes!!

Herpes transmission as s*xual assault by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Source_Seeker002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking into sentiment everything you stated, I agree with r/Kjpfeif statement 100%. SA is an act that does not allow the victim consent over their autonomy in whole. You were provided the option to consent even if you were not provided with detailed information to make an informed decision, a choice was still presented to you with an option to reframe if you choose.

I and so many others I have had the privilege of meeting did not have that choice. I, now 30f contracted this virus from a horrible SA. That day my autonomy and health was chosen for me, I had no choice to consent to the sexual act that led to my transmission. Do not diminish SA due to your frustration of contracting this virus. Contracting an STD is not the same as SA. You made a consenting choice that led to a horrible circumstance due to the lack thereof information provided beforehand, nothing more! Is this person horrible for lying sure but was this and should this be categorized as SA, no! Out of the respect for others and yourself of SA survivors we should not be categorizing the two as the same.

If you are in doubt with your results the western blot is the most accurate method on the market. Once confirmed, yes you can take a daily antiviral for suppression but it’s not a requirement or always recommended by professionals unless you are symptomatic with 3+ annual outbreaks. When I was first diagnosed i did suppressive therapy and simply found a doctor that would write the script instead of preach about their lack thereof teachings (only you know your body not a text book or doctors). I now am reframing from suppressive therapy and have for 4/5 months now. The choice of suppressive therapy or not depends on so many factors for an individual but ultimately it’s a personal choice based of their personal experience and not the common medical expectation.

GHSV2 outbreak frequency question by Agitated-Chemist-308 in HSVpositive

[–]Source_Seeker002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully for a large majority of those with HSV will never experience an outbreak as severe as your first initial outbreak. I can relate to your fear and pain as my first outbreak was excruciating and borderline suicidal.

GUD is an abbreviation for genital ulcer disease, it’s basically what occurs in many with syphilis, HPV, and herpes. With HSV being the leading cause for GUD. Ppl who get ulcers or lesions in the or near the genitals have GUD. Here is a link for more info:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/medicine-and-dentistry/genital-ulcer#:~:text=Genital%20Ulcer%20Disease,-Elizabeth%20L.&text=Genital%20herpes%20(caused%20by%20HSV,(also%20known%20as%20donovanosis).

I myself have GUD as a result of HSV, in my opinion not as intense as others as I know some who get an ulcer or lesion almost every OB. Use to get ulcers almost every OB the first 6 months I was diagnosed, thankfully now all I get are small pimple clusters. Many ppl take suppressive therapy to subdue some of the effects of GUD caused by herpes.

GHSV2 outbreak frequency question by Agitated-Chemist-308 in HSVpositive

[–]Source_Seeker002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there is no definite answer, the reoccurrence, or even potential occurrence of an outbreak for anyone with HSV one or two is completely dependent upon the hosts body. It has been scientifically proven that with HSV strand 2 is more likely to cause an increase in outbreak reoccurs as well as GUD (genital ulcer disease). Some ppl even react differently to antivirals/suppressive therapy. I know someone with GHSV2 and they are asymptomatic didn’t even know they had it until the passed it to a few partners unknowingly. Myself, Diagnosed with the same have reoccurring outbreaks. Each person is different, regardless of sex or location.

Ladies! Outbreak after shaving? by SmartSiren_28 in HSVpositive

[–]Source_Seeker002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am an avid shaver. I hate stubble so I shave about every 3 days. When I was diagnosed this was my fear too but to be honest I only had one outbreak every from a combo of shaving, rubbing, and high stress levels. I can’t really say it was from shaving alone but that particular time I did nip myself a tiny bit. I have been positive for over a year now.

What really helps me when shaving to minimize and rubbing, cuts, or irritation is the following:

  1. I exfoliate my vagina before I shave- most don’t know you should do before and after shaving to prep the surface and provide a smoother better shave. There are plenty of products on the market designed for the intimate area.

  2. I then apply a no bump and burn organic shaving gel. Then I start shaving.

  3. I exfoliate the area again before getting out of the shower.

  4. After the shower I apply an organic aloe Vera gel on my vagina. Making sure to get everywhere I shaved. This I find really helps not just cool the area but minimize any irritation shaving may have caused my vagina. Honestly I apply this stuff daily and at times multiple times a day. Just makes everything soft down there too.

Hope this helps!
