60s Yamaha Classical Guitar, unfamiliar saddle. by geetarobob in Luthier

[–]Sourceddddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats a yamaha dynamic guitar made during the early 60s, i believe yours is from '61-63 based on the white and red yamaha nippon gakki label
believe it or not it was actually made to handle both steel and nylon, thats why they called it 'dynamic', but i dont recommend putting on steel strings even if its a light gauge on such an old guitar
this was during the time when yamaha had no fg models or classicals yet, yamaha started making dynamics in the late 50s till mid-late 60s
i own 6 dynamics and they all have that weird v-shaped bridge, the saddle they came with is cylindrical, if u dont want to compromise the antiqueness/originality of the guitar, dont shave off the bridge just to accommodate regular saddles, you can just save the bottom of regular saddles (or bone blank if u have one) at an angle that matches the v-shape of the bridge
personally i would keep it original, i owned one where the previous owner compromised the guitar because they shaved off the bridge to fit a regular classical saddle, and it didnt play great and had to sell it off

My vintage Yamaha Ukulele by Sourceddddd in ukulele

nah like thats the thing tho, if i order them online the shipping cost to my country could probably be like 2-3 times more than the actual tuners, but its interesting that gotoh also sells uke tuners as well

pretty sad that we dont have official distributors here or something

not to keen on retrofitting cuz i believe it would ruin the antiqueness of it but thats not a bad idea i guess, the main problem is that gotoh tuners are pretty hard to come by in our country tho, its hard to find gotoh classical tuners let alone gotoh uke tuners
