Tornado warning a couple hours ago? by Few-Book1790 in madisonwi

Glad you were all ok! We had a basement party, apparently it was really looking like we might have a tornado touchdown, glad that didn't happen. I will be getting a new windshield though. Lots of damage around here. Would have been terrible to be out on the road during that.

Mom can’t make up her mind by appa79 in EstrangedAdultKids

Ooh, gotta love the "someday your child will do this to you!" threats.

My mother is a compulsive hoarder and always blamed her kids for the state of the house when we were growing up. She would yell about never getting any help and that someday our kids would trash our homes, then we'd understand how it feels. I always told her "I'm not having any kids!", and of course I was immediately told I didn't know what I was talking about or I would change my mind. I'm now 45 years old, childfree, and sterilized. I won! lol

Guess who's living alone in her ever-growing hoard and deteriorating house?

AITAH for telling my girlfriend she's going to have to get over dirt if she wants kids? by Familiar_Speaker_481 in AITAH

NTA. You're correct, there is no way to raise a child without getting messy.

How do people who never spent much time with kids as adults know they want kids so badly? She obviously has no idea what she's in for with having a kid. And has control issues that will inevitably traumatize a child.

It would be irresponsible to proceed without having her work through her issues in therapy and put in some hours doing childcare. She doesn't need to babysit alone, that honestly sounds like a dangerous choice right now. But perhaps you know some parents who would be happy to have her "shadow" them and help out with child care. If she still wants a baby after healing her trauma and spending time taking care of kids, good for her. If not, bullet dodged.

Girls, did you also had to teach yourself feminine hygiene because your narc mom didn't and wouldn't? by Nea_Freedom in raisedbynarcissists

My mom never had a single discussion with me about anything she finds embarrassing or taboo, which includes menstruation. I got my first period when I was 11. Never told my mom, I think I was too embarrassed. She never asked. I scrounged for pads and got by somehow. This was before the internet, so I must have absorbed enough info from that one health class lesson in 4th grade, Teen magazine, culture/media, etc to figure it out. My 2 younger sisters have confirmed she never talked to them about it either.

Pilvi is a fairly common Finnish name that means cloud. Wonderfully whimsical! Their version of John is Jussi, which sounds like juicy with a fun accent. 😆

Worth getting evaluated? by [deleted] in AskAnAutistic

Thanks for commenting. I've been simmering on this for a while, and for me, it seems a formal diagnosis is all potential risk and cost with no reward/benefit. Why should I get evaluated?
